I "hate" Michigan, but congratulations. Michigan, like LSU and Penn State, needed a win, any win any way any how, in the worst way.

Like LSU, they got it. So good for them.

I now want to see Iowa State win the Big 12 and wonder if they would have made the Playoff if they hadn't played Louisiana. Obviously the Big Ten and Pac 12 decided late to play at all. Most SEC teams, do you really miss your FCS cupcake games this year?.

I think the FCS and low-rung G5 payday games are missed by the P5 conferences not playing them this year. They give not only the players and coaches but also the fans a "breather" from the conference schedule.

For everyone but Clemson, conference games are exhausting, physically and emotionally. They tend to be against physically tougher teams, to be rivalry games, and with more on the line because of conference standings. You can't just play games like that all the time. Sounds good in theory but in practice, you need to be able to sleep on the job every once in a while to rejuvenate. And fans need to be able to come to the stadium every so often and be able to kick back and relax while the game is going on, confident of victory without having to hang on the edge of their seats for three hours.

Plus, for us neutral fans, there's also the occasional bite-you-in-the-arse outcome where the cupcake gets paid a million dollars to show up at the 80,000 seat P5 stadium and beats the bigger-name team anyway, which we get to laugh at. We got a few of those with the SBC - B12 matchups early on. Would have been nice to see more.

Not true. Clemson has lost and had close games throughout their “dynasty”. I’ve seen Ohio State plow through plenty a conference opponent (save yesterday).

Yes, and for CFB fans too.

Compared to the situation in late August, when it looked like no football would be played, this has been fantastic. We've had more than two months of FBS football, with more to come. I appreciate all the teams and conferences that have played.

And they all got warmup games before the conference season. Every team improves more between the 1st and 2nd games than any other time during the season. Even more important this year with the stops and starts in practice.

Every conference has cupcake games. The Big Ten has Rutgers and Illinois, the SEC has Vanderbilt and Arkansas, the Big 12 has Kansas. Do you really need to play Abilene Christian? If you really want the week off, don't play anyone! If you have to play Abilene Christian or North Alabama just to play a game, you're better off not playing. Sure, we laugh if Liberty beats Syracuse and Virginia Tech. I'll bet you they weren't laughing up in Syracuse and Blacksburg. They shouldn't have scheduled the games. They gain little financially and wound up humiliating themselves. Same with Iowa State and Kansas State.

What is the SEC coming to?!

UGA-Miss. St. game--combined 37 rushes for 30 yards. 737 yards combined passing.

LU will likely fall out of the top 25 but I give the program full credit: The progress made in only a few seasons ... strong.

It was a close, hard-fought game throughout. Statistically about even. The game turned on three plays in the fourth quarter:

1) With Liberty up 14-7 early in the fourth, an NC State punt backed Liberty up at their own 3 yard line. Liberty tried a delayed draw and the runner was swarmed under in the end zone for a Safety, making the score 14-9. Truthfully, the runner probably got the ball out of the end zone such that it should not have been a safety, but sadly, the replay didn't have a down-the-goal-line shot for some reason which would have been conclusive, so the call stood.

As an aside, that was the first Safety NC State had scored in 10 years and 1 day, since a November 20, 2010 game vs North Carolina.

2) With about 9 minutes left and facing 3rd and long from their own 20, the Liberty QB threw an ill-advised out pattern and it was intercepted, giving State the ball at the Liberty 26. That set State up for the TD that put them up 15-14 (they missed on the 2-point try).

3) Liberty drove the ball to the State 23 yard line and with a 1:20 to go they attempted a FG that would have put them ahead 17-15, but it was blocked.

Game over.

How did NCState look, Quo? I have not seen the Pack this year and loosely root for them (sister attended).

I’m sure Abilene Christian is thankful for the game. Who else are they playing?

Besides, you don’t know the relationship between AD’s, and any game for an FCS this year is much welcomed for them.

Liberty has proven they aren’t a cupcake, something I predicted years ago.

They looked pretty good. Tough and physical. They came in to the game 5-3 against an all-ACC schedule, including having played Pitt, Miami and UNC, so a pretty tough schedule. And they were clearly motivated to play Liberty. I know, that sounds weird rolling off the tongue, but they were prepared like they were playing a ranked team, which they were.

Liberty also acquitted themselves well. NC State clearly recruits better athletes, but Liberty slugged it out toe to toe and should have won.

Good to know about State. I typically catch a Wolfpack game or two each year but have yet to see this this fall. That's a football program that should be a bit better than it typically is.

As to Liberty (have yet to see them either) ... full props. They obviously have a very solid team.

Thx, QV.

To be fair, the money Liberty was putting up for their 1 in the 2 for 1 was P5 money.
