No fans to start W&M BB season
https://tribeathletics.com/news/2020/11/...dance.aspx

"The atmosphere in Kaplan Arena has been electric in recent years thanks to the William & Mary community's passionate support," Interim Director of Athletics Jeremy Martin said. "Given the Commonwealth's guidance and that of our university's public health advisors, we will start our competitive seasons, and notably men's and women's basketball, without fans present."

RE: No fans to start W&M BB season
Makes sense, I'd have been shocked if we were allowing fans.

So far Butler is the only school I've seen saying they'll allow fans, but I'm sure at least a few others will try

Followup: Virtual season tickets are available. https://tribeathletics.com/news/2020/11/...lable.aspx

Count me in for those that hope the virtual watch parties continue for road games next year.

RE: No fans to start W&M BB season
Just saw the part about "2019-2020 seat location locked for 2021-2022" on the $250 tier. Is that per seat, and are they suggesting that not buying a virtual ticket might result in losing your seat for 2021-2022? That's not a great position to take at this point in trying to win fans back, IMO. Especially since this doesn't come with the ability to actually watch any games. FloSports subscription sold separately.

Not addressing that at all in the article isn't great either. How hard would it have been to include FloSports promo codes with this? As far as I can tell, they're basically selling ticket licenses for $250, maybe $250 per seat. The rest of it are things that nobody has ever shown significant interest in, or at least no interest in paying for it.

I think that it is per seat. I have had the same 3 seats for 45 years. If he is suggesting that I need to give them $750 this year for nothing just so I can have my 3 seats available next year, that is very, very bad.

VCU might have done 1000. I bet it is reflective of the governor's new executive order from last Friday. Prior to that, the max was 1000. Now 250 is the max. Likely this eliminates any hope Busch Gardens had of being open as well for their ChristmasTown event. But, the length of the order is undetermined so restrictions could lift if he believes things are improving.

Sad about no fans, but I guess that could change too. Personally I am still trying to decide on Flo. Would gladly pay $50-100 to the college for TribeTV for game coverage. Not a big fan of FloSports though.

I just don't understand who would buy the $50 or $150 tiers that wouldn't need to have their season ticket spots reserved. I also don't understand who is buying this without a FloSports subscription included, unless they are required to buy it in order to keep their seats, in which case don't pretend otherwise. Just come out and say "we're out of money, we need you to pay $250/seat in order to get through the season".

The original Virtual Season Ticket post from the W&M Tribe Athletics Facebook account was reposted by the W&M Men's Basketball Team account. The text in the repost:

I really want to understand the locking in of seats and whether the package to do that is $250/per seat or $250 for your whole package of seats before I decide how riled up to get.

You are being offered a season ticket that doesn't actually include the ability to watch a game.

Think about that concept for a minute. Seriously.

IF this is really true--and I have some doubts--then if nobody buys these "virtual tickets" we'll see it disappear rapidly.

For this "season ticket" concept to work, it should have been bundled with a Flosports viewing package.

This is a great idea but poor execution. Having your pic in your seat is cool and paying a fee per seat to this would be nice but it is not worth paying $250 per seat! This seems to be a seat licensing fee to hold your seat until next year with no explanation if you loss your seat by not doing it.

Went online and the website shows you are paying $250 per seat and do not have the option to specify the seat you are reserving even when you log into your own account which knows which seats you had last year. Just renewed my FloSports package also.

Wish they would take these marketing concepts and actually run them thru a focus group first....not well thought out sadly.

Email for Mike McCarney:
"I’ve updated that. It was meant to mean your price from the 2019-20 season was locked for the 2021-22 season if you purchase that package.

As for the package itself, you don’t have to match the number of seats you had. You can purchase one package and receive all the benefits while maintaining the same number of seats when we allow fans in the building again."

This leaves open the question of whether ticket prices will go up in 2021-22, and whether buying the Pride Package means anything as a hedge against price increases. Also leaves open the potential for a seat license increase.

Mike-great follow up on this! Might want to be sure the email referenced in this post goes to all MBB season ticketholders however....

I am more than a little distressed that all of this was not communicated in an e-mail directly to the season ticket holders. I tend to view anything not communicated in that manner to be unofficial.

I agree with this and said as much to another poster in direct message.

I think it's yet another miss in a long line of misses from this ticketing department.
