RE: Cincinnati and Under Armour Buyout
Frankly, I've just not experienced a problem with the quality of the UC/UA licensed retail product and I've purchased my fair share since the deal was inked years ago. I don't think they offer as much fan gear as Adidas did, especially in terms of winter outerwear. Polo shirts are certainly cut to a slimmer profile, though that's been trending in clothing generally for the past few years and people tend to just step up one size as needed. And shirts seem to be slightly higher priced than the Nike ones I see the next aisle over for OSU. So we're all paying a little more for UC to get a lot more with UA.

UA now appears to be paying the price for their past spending spree for college licensing rights. In UC's favor right now is Bearcat football--maybe at an all-time high in terms of national visibility. If that can be sustained (at a consistent top 25 level) for the next couple of years it bodes well for the next agreement, though the dollars may never match what UA offered.

From a basketball standpoint, I really hope we can land a deal with Nike/Jordan. Obviously, we won't get the UA treatment or dollars but from a recruiting standpoint, it's a huge boon.

call me a pessimist, but I doubt our recruiting gets much better because a bunch of kids like the jumpy guy logo on their shoes, and I don't think potential recruits are going to replace the millions we might lose when the deal is up.

Not that I am aware of. They seem focused on soccer stuff outside of the USA. I don't think Champion or Reebok is involved at any real level either.

I think it has more to do with the Nike/Jumpman AAU teams and tournaments than it does with a style preference.

Although if you listen to Alex Meachum's podcasts, just about every popular 90s and 00s player he has interviewed has mentioned how much they loved the red/black and Jordan combo. Probably had a lot to do with the Bulls and Jordan being so popular at the same time.

All favoritism aside, the Black/Red color palette is probably to most attractive two-color palette out there.

Digging this thread up...

UCLA still has their lawsuit against UA but they just entered into a large long term deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand for all 21 of their sports programs.

Anyone remember the Reebok Kamikazes in red/black?

One of my all-time favorite basketball shoes. I wore them in 6th grade playing for the Mt. Healthy Bearcats. We won our league championship that year and looked damn good doing it.

I want Jordan brand so bad haha. I’d take less money just to have them back. I love their football jerseys too.

They are basically Nike anyways so materials are top knotch.

Bumping an old thread here, but I can't find any official news. Is UC sticking with Under Armour? I thought the buyout was happening on the first of this month, but I haven't seen any announcement (Icould have easily missed one). UC Basketball is also having photo/video day in last year's uniforms.

RE: Cincinnati and Under Armour Buyout
From the original article:

"The Bearcats will likely continue to wear Under Armour products for the next three years. A separate "product supply agreement" gives the university the right to purchase Under Armour products from BSN Sports, a distributor of team sports apparel and equipment through which Under Armour offers its products at wholesale prices.

The product supply agreement was signed by an Under Armour executive in September and Pinto on Nov. 3. Cincinnati may "begin negotiations at any time in its discretion" with another apparel company under the deal.

During the first year of the new arrangement, which begins July 1, 2021, Cincinnati will receive a product rebate of $50,000 toward the purchase of Under Armour products at retail pricing. The university will also get a $150,000 rebate from BSN if it spends more than $1 million on product, or a $120,000 rebate if it spends less than $1 million.

In the second and third years of the deal, Cincinnati will receive rebates from Under Armour worth 15% of its total spending in the prior contract year. From BSN, Cincinnati will receive rebates worth 10% of its total spending in the prior contract year."
