Justice Alito - Newsweek - 1st Amendment
Here is a compelling column in response, to response, of Justice Alito's recent speach. Good read.

Ah, yes. I shouldn't have to wear a mask because it infringes on my LIBERTY while 250,000 Americans have died. What about their right to life? Good grief. One of the most selfish groups of people in the entire world is right here in the United States. And also... public criticism of bigotry towards same-sex marriage isn't censorship. It's just criticism. White males want to be discriminated against so badly. It's the weirdest fetish out there right now.

?!?!

May want to re-read the article, or even look-up the actual speach.

I read through speech the night it came out. It's bad that somebody that gets to arbitrarily decide what laws happen in America hold these views.

Selfishness? You say that like it is a bad thing.

How about YOU decide what YOU want and how YOU want to get it (legally), and I will decide what I want and how I will get it? I wont ask you to give or do anything for me against my will or desire, and you don't ask or compel me to give or do anything for you against your will or desire? That's fairness and equity. And if those rules are applied to everyone, regardless of sex, race, religion, etc., it works. I'll worry about mySELF, and you worry about yourSELF.

On the other hand, when you insist that the government force me to do things, against my will, or take things from me to do what YOU or someone else who I may disagree with wishes to be done, THAT is not only SELFISH, indeed it is grossly immoral, and arguably should be criminal.

Liberty is the most valuable thing every American possesses, and should be the first and last thing we all should fight to protect and preserve. Unfortunately, over years of ignorance manifest by many, if not most, of our largest institutions, like the media, education systems, and political institutions, intellectually lazy Americans have acquiesced to an indoctrination which has compromised the most sacred American values, including liberty, and have taken our freedom for granted to such an extent that they cant see that they are urinating away what means most in terms of both short and long term quality of life; not to mention economic prosperity. How sad.

As for masks; if you wish to wear one, wear one. If you feel that others not wearing one in places where you appear places you at a level of risk you don't want to experience, don't go to those places. That is YOUR choice. If someone has bad body odor in a public area, or for that matter is sneezing and could have some non-covid-19 contagion which could, if you have a compromised immune system, cause you serious health problems if you caught it, you may decide to leave the area. That's a choice you have. If you or some government official gets to decide what liberties will be denied based on YOUR personal perceived "dangers", that opens the door extremely wide for anyone else's perceptions of "danger", or even "inconveniences", based solely on who happens to be carrying the big stick at the time. And trust me brother, you will understand that concept more clearly when the shoe is on the other foot, and one day it will be.

Self-righteousness if far worse than selfishness.

RE: Justice Alito - Newsweek - 1st Amendment
In his farewell address upon leaving the presidency (voluntarily) over 200 years ago, George Washington was uncannily prescient in warning Americans of the problems we face today.

Not the pandemic, but those in power - as if he had foreseen the rise of Donald Trump and his sycophants.

Fake news no doubt, brovol?

Or do you just endorse Americans killing one another with a deadly virus in the name of "liberty"?

I wear a seatbelt, wear a helmet when riding a bike, don't pee on my neighbor's lawn, stop at red lights, don't buy booze for underaged kids, but I am pissed that I have to wear a face mask that may protect me or my family or my kids. Sounds like good logic.

Do "restrictions/"lockdowns" have a human and/or economic cost?

That side of the ledger is never mentioned or discussed.

Why?

Public policy does not occur in a vacuum.

Talked to father of ER nurse at local hospital yesterday.

She told him you can't believe how many times they have had to ask family members of COVID-19 patients to put on masks or leave, or had to call Security to get them to leave the Treatment Room because they refused.

Those poor people, having their Liberty taken away from them. Right, brovol?

Your last comment and your sources are full of $hit.

To call this virus, and it's 99+% recovery rate a "pandemic" is malarkey. Lots of people get it, just like lots get other ailments, and some actually get sick when they have it. Like other bugs, flus and viruses, when old, unhealthy, and people with compromised immune systems get it they are particularly susceptible, and it is genuinely life threatening. There is good reason for people to take precautions. There is not good reason, and it never has been, for the government to shut the economy forcibly, or otherwise compromise individual liberties.

The current "spikes" in positive tests is fairly meaningless. Bring cold and flu season we always have spikes and viruses. The more relevant or dispositive question is death rates. The death rates are not at an alarming or pandemic worthy level. And when people talk about hospitals being "at their capacity", they forget to mention that those same hospitals were above capacity prior to covid-19. As to the death numbers, I have less than no confidence in the legitimacy of those totals. The mechanisms and rules for assessing a "covid-19 death" have been beyond questionable from the beginning. You may drink the kool-aid, but I will continue to take a pass.

Contrary to what you might believe Major, neither you nor your friends at CNN or MSNBC speak from a burning bush on this, or anything else.

Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie (as latest example) is full to capacity as are the ones in surrounding communities.

They are having to turn new COVID-19 patients away. Nearest hospital is three hours away.

But they cannot spare ambulances to transport.

I suppose they are "full of ****" too.

In other news last week South Korea had 200 new COVID-19 cases in one day. Government threatened fines for those not wearing masks in public.

That same day US had 1673 COVID-19 DEATHS. And our Grand Exalted Leader was making fun of people wearing face protection, even as White House continues to be a "hot spot."

But I'm sure you, brovol, don't believe those facts, either.

You must be a flat-Earther too.

You must be a "follow the 'science', well, not actually 'the' science, but 'my' version of the science" guy. I am certain you know more than the viral epidemiologist from Cambridge, who is on boards established to evaluate and assess covid-19 measures, has an interest a company which provides covid-19 tests in NC, but who in no ambiguous terms says what you, and other covid panic monger types who want to lock everyone up, are absolutely nuts. The "science" and the "data" are in, and has been for a while, confirming exactly the opposite as what you and the left have been screaming for months. You can, and I am sure will, continue the gaslighting on this, but the science will keep proving you to be wrong.

Dear brovol,
You have one scientist that shares your point of view. When there are thirty other scientists with the opposite point of view, whom do you think people are going to believe? With 250,000 dying from covid, I would have to believe this is more serious than the flu. Even if there are errors in the covid death count, it is far more deadly then our normal flu.

Dear Ken,

There are hundreds of scientists and Drs who share my view. You shouldn't just listen to what CNN and MSNBC is feeding you. The death totals you cite are so flawed it is curious that intelligent folks still reference them. But even using those bastardized figures, the mortality rates are far from pandemic worthy, and certainly dont justify draconian lock-down measures by any non-Trump-election-year standards. This is particularly true when you also consider that the overwhelming majority of covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths occur within a particular group; elderly/unhealthy people; who, by the way, are also at risk if they contract other flu, bugs, viruses, infections. For the rest of us, the risk of serious covid-19 sickness or death is extremely low.

Even, though, if the risk were far higher than it actually is there would be no justification for government tyrants denying citizens the liberty to make their own choices. Do you believe that if the government thinks that society is better and safer if a couple only has one child, it should be able to limit that? Or cars are too dangerous, so a governor makes them illegal in that state? Please!

I dont doubt that covid-19 is bad and dangerous, or that it is "worse" than the seasonal flu. It certainly appears to be more "catchy", which in and of itself makes it worse. But it is not nearly as bad as to justify monumental government intrusion and heavy handedness. People are capable enough to assess risk and protect themselves accordingly. If you lived in a state which has no restrictions you can decide for yourself if you want to go to a restaurant or to wear a mask. Worse case is that the people who favor heavy restrictions stay at home; which is what they are proposing themselves anyway. Let the rest of us live at our own discretion.

I think it is funny when anyone quotes Fauci anymore. He has been so wishy-washy since the beginning, and has said so many things, and made so many proclamations, which have proven to be inaccurate, that he lacks any credibility whatsoever. He has been a government bureaucrat, and has consistently acted that role. It also makes me laugh that one day liberals hate and dismiss what Fauci says, then the next day they love what comes out of his mouth. His inconsistency is the only thing about him that is consistent. Another hypocritical masker too; everyone else should wear one, but ill wear one only if I feel like it.

This is one of the most dishonest posts I have ever seen. What reality are you living in dude? Where do I even start? Government bureaucrat? He's worked for six different Presidents in a non-partisan position for public health and is regarded as the world's foremost expert in infectious diseases. His job is to keep people healthy. When have liberals "hated on" Fauci? Also - are you alluding to the baseball game that Fauci took his mask off for 2 minutes? While sitting with his wife and friend that undergo consistent testing?

You need to do some soul-searching. Your candidate for president got his ass handed to him and is crying like a little baby about it.
