RE: Justice Alito - Newsweek - 1st Amendment
People are obviously not capable of making their own decisions about risk with COVID, Brovol. Doctors Without Borders is in the freaking United States right now. North Dakota has the world's highest mortality rate. We are losing the battle with COVID while other countries in Asia are literally having concerts and sports games.
I'm literally just in shock at some of the things spouted on this message board. It's insane. It's so far-fetched from reality I cannot believe it.

A week ago one day the Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE had ten and a half pages of obituaries.
Sure, COVID-19 is no worse than the flu.

And I feel as much in shock as you do, but for the opposite reason.
There is one person I know who died, and it was classified as a covid-19 death. In fact, long before contracting covid-19 she was receiving hospice treatment, and was about 80 lbs when she got covid-19 in the hospital. She was already told her life expectancy was weeks before heading to Henry Ford Hospital for a treatment, picking up the virus there, and perhaps the covid-19 expedited her death, but to suggest that she died from covid-19 is preposterous, and all the folks in my small town know it is. But I digress. Other than this friend I referenced, I know of no other person who I am personally familiar with who was either seriously sick or died with covid-19. Friends, family, and anyone I know, whether friendly with or not. In fact, I don't know all that many people who have even gotten covid-19, but those who have had very little to no symptoms. I am not suggesting that there aren't an awful lot of people who have gotten extremely sick, and who have died as a result of contracting covid-19, but rather, I am suggesting it is not as widespread a serious deadly illness as many would like everyone to believe. But more importantly, my objections are to government responses which are counterproductive, unfair and overreaching.
I suspect that you haven't listened to the audio I linked this morning in this thread. I think you should.

RE: Justice Alito - Newsweek - 1st Amendment
The article was less about "masks" specifically and more about the gradual, if not abrupt, errosion of our 1st Amendment rights.
Oh well....

If masks work, why is the entire northern hemisphere seeing a resurgence (continuance of the first wave) during cold and flu season?

Also, North Dakota does not lead the world in fatality rate. Please use correct statistics. If you count states as countries, the top places with deaths per million are as follows (and certainly a function of density and climate):
1. New Jersey, 1,902
2. New York, 1,760
3. Mass., 1,525
4. CT, 1,354
5. Louisiana, 1347
6. Belgium, 1,337
7. San Marino, 1,266
8. Miss., 1,235
9. RI, 1,221
10. North Dakota, 1,102

There were no positive tests amongst 1,174 close contacts of asymptomatic cases.
Comments?
Thoughts?
It's China...
Just like the flu, though, the general observation is that most spread is right before and the day symptoms start, before a person knows to stay home. Note that asymptomatic and presymptomatic are different.
