We need to win more and talk less. Sorry, not sorry.

I'll take the 1986 Tigers...and a neutral court in the NCAA tourney.

That game was highway robbery

I don't hear any of you complaining about having home court in the NCAA the year before vs. Purdue.

IIRC...that was 1984 (2 years prior). ORU and Purdue at home in the first two rounds.

Ah, good call. Thanks.

I just remember Jim Rowinski from Purdue.

That wasn't fair either, but hopefully you aren't saying that a #3 seed playing a #11 seed that was one of the last 4 in, is the same as a #3 seed playing a #6 seed.

West Virginia 8
Creighton 14
Memphis 39
Utah St 69
Saint Mary’s 74
No Iowa 76
Wichita 97
S Dakota 98

We play SMC first, then either WVU/ No Iowa, then someone in the other bracket, all depending on who wins and who loses when.

UNI probably rates higher than A&M ... U-State also ranks high (we're 39 in Lindy's, they're 40). Saint Mary's is always tough ... SD State is picked #1 in their league and is playing at home (kinda). I keep trying to hate this tourney with all the drop outs and they keep coming up with good teams. WSU might be the worse team now considering all the new players and coach gonna be tough ... Turkey and Tigers 07-coffee3

AND ... there's the possible Penny/Huggy Bear matchup (I know eggs and chickens) on day 2. Of course ... WVU is probably pulling out as we speak ... but HEY !!!

Unfortunately that's not our colors anymore

I will say Penny seems to appreciate the blue & gray more than the football program. We're cranking out the 80s/ 90s Memphis State uniforms and only the occasional black ones in hoops, while the football team is wearing the generic grocery packaging black and white uniforms and the Cincinnati Bengal wannabe helmets.

I love the MEMPHIS STATE uniforms ----and yes I was one that hated the name change and still do-----heck even half the media/announcers/commentators still call us MEMPHIS STATE .

If one or two very old and feeble announcers constitute half of the media.

I was young, I think I went to the ORU game with my granddad. The only thing I remember from those NCAA games (we got there early and watched both games in the session) was Houston's warm up jerseys that had "Phi Slamma Jamma" on the back; and I think that Olajuwon's name on his jersey was "Akeem" instead of his last name.

I believe he was Hakeem in college.

Hakeem Abdul Olajuwon (/əˈlaɪʒuɒn/; Yoruba: [olaɟuwɔ̃]; born January 21, 1963), formerly Akeem Olajuwon, is a Nigerian-American former professional basketball player. He is considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

That's an odd statement in this OP. There's really been none of the talk that you're claiming.

It's also odd time periods that you're framing your claims around. Everyone (well, almost) acknowledges Pastner and Tubby both ended up as disappointments. During the Penny era, we have been consistently above .500.

Finally, I'm pretty sure we were "legit top 25" for Joe's last 2 seasons. One finished in top 25, the other was wire-to-wire top 25, until we got dismantled by Virginia in the tourney.

Other than that, good post! 04-rock

I think we play as long as there is a tournament. We gotta have games and everybody's schedule is pretty much done now. It's on ESPN so they should be able to come up with another team to replace Creighton. Jon Rothstein is shaking the bushes as we speak !!

I would be shocked if we don't. They have already replaced 5 original teams and one replacement team. What's one more? And they got all Top 100 replacements, as well.

Plus, it's in South Dakota, which isn't locked down even with rising cases, and the protocols in place are as good as any MTE can make them.

I think it's on unless a lot of the university presidents get cold feet at the last minute.
