Neal Brown Candidate for SC Job?

South Carolina is a better job. The entire state of West Virginia hardly has any high school D1 football recruits every year.

Do we have as much as some other states? No. However WV does actually produce some really good players. The problem is they are a little underdeveloped going into college. Marshall and WVU both have both had pretty good success off in-state walk-ons that eventually become starters.

I honestly just don't think our HS players get enough of a chance to show what they can do.

I don't follow HS sports that closely anymore, but I know a big detriment to our players were the rules placed the WVSSCA. They used to really hamper off season development for players.

I wasn't taking a shot at your state. In years past I have looked up the state of West Virginia and y'all had less than 3 players sign division 1 football scholarships. I think it has more to do with your population and the kind of population. Just stating South Carolina would be an easier job from a recruiting standpoint. It can be done with limited recruits in your state. Boise is in a similar situation with their state putting out hardly any football recruits. They get pretty much all of their recruits from California.

RE: 2020 football coaching changes
Personally I think WVU is a way better job than USC. I got a ton of family in Columbia so I am familiar with the program. WVU may not have the HS talent that SC has but it has Pittsburgh in its back yard and Ohio in the front. It doesn't have to compete in the toughest football conference or with the perennial contender every year too. No disrespect to my friends at Marshall but WVU isn't competing against Clemson for recruits. If Marshall can be ranked in the tip 20 as the second team in the state there is plenty of talent there. Just keep in mind that no matter what, USC has to face UGA, Florida and Clemson every year. WVU may have to play Oklahoma but the rest of the Big12 is pretty competitive.

WV players have def. played a role in Marshall's success over the years. Going back to when Sonny Randle started building the 1st Marshall winning team in 20 years with Carl Fodor (Wier WV), Mike Barber (Winfield, WV) to the 90s with players like Micheal "Koolaid" Owens (Logan, WV). Randy "The Freak" Moss (DuPont/Rand WV) and Jason Radar (St Albans WV). And into the 2000s with Doug Legursky (Beckley WV), Aaron Dobson (Dunbar WV). In the 10s we had Chase Hancock (Beckley WV) and Raheem Waiters (Quincy WV) and now in 20s Grant Wells (Charleston WV) and Derrek Pitts (Dunbar WV).

I know there are others, these are the ones I just pulled off the top of my head that have been in state players and have produced for Marshall. No the state of WV doesn't produce a ton of talent over all but when they do they are usually productive. The state of WV has very strict rules on athletics and practice. If you aren't motivated to put in the time yourself then most likely you will be undersized and underdeveloped as a DI prospect coming out of HS in WV.

Out of those players six of them played at least 1 year in the NFL, those being Carl Fodor, Mike Barber, Randy Moss, Jason Radar, Doug Legursky and Aaron Dobson.

RE: 2020 football coaching changes
In reading the discussion here about states and their high school talent, I came upon this ranking of states in terms of NFL Players Per Capita. Granted, it's not the only way to effectively gauge football talent from a state, but it's still one measure and at least offers a perspective in terms of NFL-level talent. Had seen one of these before a couple years ago btw and I remember Louisiana being at the top last time.

WVU is the better job that South Carolina. They've had a lot more success than SC has. WVU is a lot more relevant or at least has been a lot more relevant than SC.

Wasn't it SC that had "10 win" rings made? That's the pinnacle of their program. I mean I hate wvu with a passion, but they are one of the better mid-tier P5s.

Also doesn't SC have stricter admission standards? I thought I read that Spurrior had issues with being able to get kids into SC.

The forgotten vacancy, Doc's contract ends June 2021, and so far not a mention of an extension or a coaching search committee. I'm guessing Doc will get a 2 or 3 year deal, IF he wants it.

Ive been thinking of something and who knows it may happen. We extend Doc for a few years. Cole Pennington commits to Marshall, Doc hires Chad to his staff and in 22, 23 or 24 Chad takes over for Doc.

Chad is an excellent student of the game probably as great an understanding as anyone, not sure his heart is in coaching at the college level, he's certainly capable never understood why he chose not to.

He stated in an interview like a month ago that his love for football has always been Friday Night Lights. In other words the HS level. But it would be awful hard to turn down your alma mater that would want you as HC.

Plus he really wouldn't have to move. Chad and his family live in Lexington KY. Huntington to Lexington is like 125-130 miles away from each other. He could be home in around 2 hours if he was needed.

I know some have wanted Chad ever since Doc was hired even though he was still playing for the Dolphins then. I was one of the skeptcal ones when that was suggested because at the time he had not one min of coaching experience. But after watching him the last 4 years take Sayre HS from no program to 8-1 and in the playoffs a year early, I can say I would no longer be skeptical.

In their 8 wins this year Sayre won each game by an avg of 22.1 points per game.

Neal Brown Candidate for SC Job?

South Carolina is a better job. The entire state of West Virginia hardly has any high school D1 football recruits every year.

Shane Beamer son of Frank Beamer former Va Tech coach is the favorite to be the next USC coach. Charlie Strong is being mentioned as the DC. The coordinators will probably make more than the Head Coach.
Rumor: USA is in the market for a new HC. We’ll see

Some USM fans think that one of our rumored top candidates Kane Wommack (Indiana DC) will get a good look there. He was the DC at USA prior to going to IU in 2018.

**And Steve Campbell at South Alabama now officially fired**
