I want to be Will Muschamp. This guy has now been paid 22.2 million dollars to not coach someone and just go away. His buyout at Florida was 6.9 million and now at South Carolina 15.3 million.

I would think South Carolina is going to offer Freeze, but he probably wants to see what happens at Tennessee and Auburn first.

My thoughts exactly. Freeze is positioned to be the beneficiary of a bidding war... although there's something to be said for holding firm, making South Carolina put a huge offer out to try to get him before other jobs come open. What's the worst that could happen, he gets a giant contract and they has a mediocre record (because South Carolina football) and walks away with a huge buy out in three years?

I haven't seen the details of his new Liberty contract but my guess is Liberty will get a good payday/buyout too if Freeze were to leave for the SEC.

I know coaches lie spectacularly when it comes to contracts, but Freeze seemed pretty sincere about loving life at Liberty plus he probably has the freedom to do things exactly like he wants without the AD acting like he’s in charge. It could be like a Clark situation at UAB, more about legacy and control than money. Plus, you aren’t hurting making $3MM a year.

He's ready for Rice now...Rice prefers other people to pay for their coaches since they don't want to. They also prefer them kinda washed up, usually (or so green and impractical that there's no way they'll have more than a little success.) Occasionally they do screw up: see: K. Hatfield, F. Goldsmith, T. Graham. But they make up for it in spades: see: Doughnut Bailiff, Jerry's Berndt

Anything is possible but as we have seen time and time again these high level coaches can’t pass up the money and maybe just as important playing on the biggest stage which is the SEC.

My opinion is he’s gone this year to an SEC school. He’ll get 4 to 6M per year, 3 years. It will be interesting to see what Liberty does next.

Could Liberty match? I know we joke about how much money they have but can they/will they step up to an SEC offer? Because South Carolina is a tough nut to crack and Tennessee will always have sky-high expectations. If they can get in the neighborhood at least, he might stick around and wait for a better fit.

You can add Derek Mason at Vandy to the list.

I heard that when Mason got fired at Vanderbilt, they had Sarah Fuller kick him out of the building, but he only made it halfway down the hall.

Thank you! I'll be here all night! Tip your waitress!

I'd be shocked if Freeze took a contract for three years. I expect it to be 5+ years if he does decide to leave Liberty. He is probably the most coveted coach in a while, and I'm assuming he will take advantage of that this offseason.

That would be a funny gif of Fuller making her 30 yard pooch kickoff, but instead of a football it is Derek Mason.

RE: 2020 football coaching changes
Staying at Liberty another year or so would be foolish. He's had an amazing season but it will be hard to duplicate. He should take the money now and hope he can make it work at USC, Vandy, et al. rather than hoping he gets the Auburn job or a higher level SEC job in another year or so. If he has a dip in performance next year, his "background" becomes more of an issue again.

Someone said he's pulling down $3MM/yr. at Liberty why jump at the first P5 offer unless it's an historical football power like Tennessee, Auburn, Michigan, etc. South Carolina is a dead-end job and Vanderbilt is just another stepping stone job.

Brown won't stay long enough to sign a new contract or probably an ext. to his 6 year contract. But then again he is only 10-10 (7-9 B12) in the Hole. Not that impressive.

South Carolina is a better job. The entire state of West Virginia hardly has any high school D1 football recruits every year.
