UT has a big checkbook, why not go for the Bearcats coach, but UT has a recent history of bad coaching hires.

...It's almost as if the University of Tennessee leaders are not really college football fans, so they don't keep up with "who's who" in college football. Then, they get asked to pick a new coach every 2 or 3 yrs, at which time they demonstrate that they have no clue who to pick, or what to do.

White is a smart AD. Part of me thinks he went and got Heupel since he knew the NCAA sanctions were going to hurt UT either way, no one really wanted the job, and at least this way UT can run an exciting offense for a few years before he fires CJH and gets a better candidate pool for coaches once the probation period is done.

UT just settled on about the 10th choice for DC to finally make that hire. No one wants to go there.

This is Tennesse's 7th head coach since firing Fulmer at the end of 2008.

2009 Lane Kiffin
2010-12 Derek Dooley
int Jim Chaney
2013-17 Butch Jones
int Brady Hoke
2018-20 Jeremy Pruitt
21-present Josh Huepel

The only team I can think that has had more coaches in that time span are the Cleveland Browns with 8.

Isn't the owner of the Browns a huge booster for Tennessee?
