Fear a location that has good Catholic Schools. College Station does not. Ann Arbor does but no OSU guy could accept or be accepted. Oklahoma there are good Catholic schools in OK City, which is 40 miles from Norman. That said, I repeat CLF has a 10 year plan at UC which will only be interrupted if OSU or ND calls.
I agree Diamond Doss. There's way too much hand wringing. We finally get a coach to stay past Year Three, sign a long term deal, and folks spend more time worrying about what program he's going to leave us for. Just enjoy the ride. Sheesh!
Maybe this is people enjoying the ride. Discussing the Bearcats and what the future holds is a way of enjoying how far we’ve come. Speculating on the coach doesn’t mean everyone is all screaming the end is here. In fact, I think most of us feel pretty confident that even if Fick left we would be in great hands and continue the momentum that has been built.

Few coaches are looking for a job, but lots of coaches find new jobs frequently. Nature of the beast unless you are Alabama, Ohio State, and a very select few.
Again, I don’t see anyone panicking, so I don’t understand what the big deal is about.

Totally agree Edgebrookjeff, but what has happened here and throughout the so called "G5" in the past 15 years has caused most fans to be prepared for the worst when they/we win big. I think pragmatic coaches, like Fickell, will look at the success rate of coaches that jumped at the first P5 opportunity, and realize it is best to wait for the "right" opportunity.

Hell, they can lose coaches too. The NFL is always calling, football coaches are a transient bunch. IMO, this is why having great facilities and fanbases are critical to maintaining winning programs.

Except that this topic comes up time and time again. It has been a topic on it's own in threads and comes up in other threads like this one. Folks have a right to post what they want and others have a right to question the posts. I know this is a sports message board but sometimes we seem to wallow in the mud way too much around these parts. Fickell could've already been gone by now but he's chosen to stay and signed a long term deal. What more do we want? Enjoy it. Stop speculating when there's no valid reason to do so. Carry on.

I just don’t see it as negative discussion or people “wallow in the mud”. I feel confident that Fick has built the program the right way and that we will continue to be successful once he leaves. There is a clear blueprint, we have a lot to offer, a recent tradition of success, and a lot of quality coaches within the program that will be ready to take the next step when their time comes.
If people start discussing it and talking like we are inevitably going back to 4-8 type years, then I agree. Otherwise this isn’t likely going away. Like Fick said, if you have a successful program you are going to have this type of buzz, whether it’s the Head Coach, a coordinator, or position coaches. I agree we should enjoy it, but no reason we can’t also discuss what the future will bring at the same time.

Talking about the future of the program is one thing but constantly speculating about which P5 du jour Fick will leave us for is another. I'm enjoying the ride and feel great about our coach who signed a long term deal like no one before him. You choose to continue to discuss it. I will not.

Part of me thinks that this will eventually disappear but if the administration at psu was looking for an out, they might have found it. Again, big "if" but...
There it is...the path to getting out from under a stupid buyout. Or at least the path to call it for cause and then negotiate a smaller number.
You’d have to think that no matter the crime PSU would have a zero tolerance policy for taking any action to derail an investigation or cover up anything.

I think one difference is, I don’t fear the time when/if we lose Fick. I feel confident that Fick built the program the right way and also created a roadmap for future coaches to build off.
Since I don’t fear what happens when he leaves, discussing his future isn’t a problem and I can still enjoy everything we have accomplished and will continue to accomplish.

This is exactly the type of stuff I was talking about. Once losing sets in these types of things seem to have a way of coming out and you start to see a snowball effect.
Still wouldn’t worry at this point, but if the losing continues and the noise grows.....

Bishop and Laurinaitis saying on radio up here that Franklin will step down from PSU at the end of the season. Now this is their speculation, but they both seem confident he’s gone.

Exactly. I don't see Franklin voluntary stepping down when the season is over and there's 35 million reasons why. Just like there's 35 million reasons why he won't get fired. That marriage will last another year or two and he'll get things straightened out post-covid.
