Of course Day will entertain taking that job...just so we can all spin on a slow spit in hell for a couple weeks.

He's got to win one at osu before he can move on. if/when he does that, all bets are off. Until then...

Here's some more names that the Eagles have reached out to interview...

Quote:The Philadelphia Eagles have a vast list of candidates for their head coaching vacancy, including a former All-Pro New England Patriots linebacker that is one of the top young coaches in the game. Philadelphia will interview Jerod Mayo, who spent eight years with the Patriots as a player and the past two seasons as an inside linebackers coach with the team, for its head coaching vacancy, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Mayo is the fourth candidate the Eagles requested to interview for their head coaching vacancy. The Eagles have contacted Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. They also have reached out to Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley.

Where Eagles Dare

RE: 2020 Coaching Carousel
I would think any college coach would run from any outreach by the Eagles after the Chip Kelly tenure. Not a city to coach in for a non Nfl guy. I also don't see Osu if Day left reaching out to LF at this point. I think they've become more of an offensive based program, and i don't think after this letdown vs. Bama they would go for a coach like LF at this point. Maybe if he continues Cincy on a more balanced attack as his career progresses, but right now i don't think they would be overwhelmed with bringing him back at this point in his career until his team(s) show higher powered offensive chops.

That doesn't worry me. If OSU hires Fickell, we can always hire Freeman away from Notre Dame. We'll still have continuity, just with a different dude at the top.

Interesting.. apparently these billboards popped up overnight featuring Fickell in front of Gino and Scruggs.

I guess that answers the question whether Denbrock is leaving or not. UC is all but acknowledging it.

Not necessarily. I think it's just profiling them because they're local. I don't think Scruggs is going to be a coordinator candidate so Gino doesn't have to be a coordinator for that ad.

.

Not saying Scruggs would be a coordinator. Just that, overnight, when Denbrock is interviewing for another job, this pops up without him on it. He's as much a protector of our city as Fickell. If Freeman we're still here, he would have been on it.

Looks like Marshall has found their man...and that man is Charles Huff, a career RB Coach who has never called a play in his entire coaching career, on his way to Huntington from Tuscaloosa.

It would bother me, except:

1) The NFL colludes to keep salaries down.
2) Winning is *far* more important to a CFB team than to an NFL team. NFL teams exist to turn a profit for the owners, while CFB teams exist to market their institution by winning games.
3) A head coach is more crucial to winning in CFB than in the NFL.

The consensus is basically that your third point is incorrect. The talent disparity in high school coaching can be massive. Bama, OSU and Clemson are on a different level talent wise but generally the talent level is more evened out. NFL teams take the best 1800 football players in the world and the talent levels are extremely even on a week to week basis. Coaching and play calling ends up being everything.

If coaching and play calling were everything in the NFL, then the New England Patriots would be just as good this year as the last dozen.

Right now, QB play seems to be the biggest differentiator in the NFL.

To be honest, I disagree with all 3 points. And to the other point of the previous poster before him, I doubt that the salaries outside of the top 5 coaches in cfg & nfl will ever be close.... And the top 5 aren't really that close either.

A CFB head coach is not just the head coach. They're also the general manager. And they're not just evaluating & selecting players; they're recruiting them. It's 3 jobs in one. That's way rarer (i.e. more expensive) to find someone who excels at all three.

NFL is more of a QB league these days. An elite QB is way more important than an elite coach. Bill Belichick, thought by many to be the best NFL coach of all time, is 50-71 without Tom Brady.

Nick Saban and Urban Meyer have won at every stop in the first year with other people's players.

The 2014 & 2015 CFB champions won with QBs who never played a down in the NFL.

Let's see...

Saban sucked in the NFL.

Spurrier sucked in the NFL.

Chip Kelly sucked in the NFL.

Bobby Petrino sucked in the NFL.

Jimmy Johnson sucked in the NFL until the Vikings set him up for life.

Switzer just got into the Ferrari that Johnson left running for him.

Lou Holtz sucked in the NFL.

But I'm sure Urbie's going to tear it up.
