Hands up if anyone would have bought if Ridder threw for 330+ yards that UC would have 37 minutes of possession.

The score really doesn't reflect how much better uc was than ucf. Scary game because of mistakes/ Redzone issues but encouraging in that we are clearly the class of the conference by a wide margin right now.

i think the coaching staff put a premium on getting any points in the red zone and, perhaps rightfully, they showed a lot of respect to the UCF defense. i think the mentality was that you simply cannot make any mistakes down there.

There were other headscratchers, like the reverse to Young, that seem particularly out of place. i'm on record as liking the end of game approach that drained the game clock. With better implementation, it will be more effective. i was less thrilled with the 2 pt conversion attempt. All that said, our strength is clear: short to mid range passing game, RPOs, and run game. Let Ridder and Co. impose their will. They've earned that right.

Perhaps you included this in your bolded statement, but...

The O line is the key. Everything revolves around them.

They were not good in the 1st quarter last night. Hence, we started out getting our a**es handed to us.

2nd qtr. on... the had their act together. We won the game 33-19 from then on.

Happy to see us, after getting punched hard in the face, to gather ourselves and finish off UCF.

RE: UCF Game
I thought overall the performance was a B on both sides of the ball. I'd have to give the game ball to Cole Smith. Kid only had 2 fg's coming into the game and to go 3/3 with the 48 yd was a "missing link" over the past couple years. Offensively we came out as we have all year and tested what the D was going to give them, and not unexpectedly they packed it in. Denbrock did a good job of getting them out of it, and the two tight ends were outstanding. I though Ridder was a little hesitant to call his own number early, but i recall the game a couple years ago down there he got lit up quite a few times. There were also several run were Doaks was a man away from taking it all the way or close. The D definitely missed Ponder, but Ucf is going to score their points. A perfect season is in sight.

Staff finally figured it out. Replacing Robinson and Cooper paid immediate dividends for all aspects of the offense when we flicked the switch in the SMU game. Hate to see a starter lose their job but their replacements are just better. May not look as good in practice and may not be as strong but they are better linemen.

Defense also had to adjust to how fast UCF plays. It took a few series to get it under control, but they looked a lot better when they were ready for it mentally.

Gottta source for this?

Based on current 1pt and 2pt conversions a team would in theory score more points over the course of a season, and therefore it makes sense to always go for two. This is obviously a narrow viewed approach by only looking at points and not potential impact on wins and losses, but interesting nonetheless.

Yep, this is correct, and we play a very gambling style of D which is likely against a team like that going to yield some points on occasion. However, i though the refs did a good job of keeping it close. Two of the pass interference calls were iffy on critical drives to score points. Not to mention late flags.

RE: UCF Game
On the O-Line, at one point during the game I pulled up the two-deep. If Hudson returns, we return 9 starters on offense, including 4 on the line. One of those losses has a ready made replacement (Ford for Doaks). The other, Harper, could possibly return. Our offense is going to be crazy good next year.

And, Beavers is a beast. Love how that guy plays.

Yesterday was a little rough, but got some relief from some good conversations here. I actually spent more time on threads around here yesterday than I have in a long time, it was a fun day.

Appreciate you asking! I truly am happy for the Bearcats and I hope there is some way that this season plays out in their favor. After yesterday, I'm starting to believe a top 4 is possible. Its currently, Alabama, then everybody else at this time and Cincinnati is right there with everybody else.

If our meltdown of a game thread was a relief, I'd hate to see the Ohio State threads......

Lol, not just this thread. I was also at several others, including the one I put together in the BIG Forum.

You all are passionate! That's a good thing.

RE: UCF Game
I'll apologize in advance as i've asked this question several times and never seen an answer. Does anyone know what Michael Pitts status is? He hasn't played since Army, and he's way to good to not be on the field even on this defense. He had a shoulder issue in the past. Is he done for 20 or will he likely be back in 21 if he wants to play the Covid year. I think 2020 was his final season normally, but i don't think he's played in more than the first couple games.

I actually expected the game thread to be worse, considering the start. We basically got off to about as bad of a start as we could have.

The good news, which several of us pointed out, was that it wasn’t a lack of talent or anything UCF was doing. We just needed to relax and play our game and execute. Once we started doing that it was evident we were the better, more talented, team.

Exactly this. Our team is as poised as I can recall a Bearcat team being. They didn't panic. They used their talent and discipline, and adjusted.

I hope you’re on your way to a full recovery. It had to be stressful during your game yesterday...hopefully you weathered it well!

It’s nice of you to put us in the same company as your Buckeyes. That’s definitely an ambition. I LOVE the Bearcats, but we’re not quite there yet. If we can keep Fickell and Freeman and keep our current trajectory, maybe we can get there. Top 4 would be amazing.

Even IF we deserve it, I think the bias keeps us out. However, the fact that we’re in the conversation AND we have a greater than zero chance is exciting as hell!

If you have ESPN+ you can rewatch it there. That’s where I always rewatch it. Normally at least one more time, sometimes multiple times.
