RE: CMU Game Thoughts
Turnovers and penalties are causes for concern. Those are coaching problems not player problems.

RE: CMU Game Thoughts
Turnovers and penalties are a result of NOT being physically capable of competing ..Guys are too fast, too strong. Just look at the tape, our young ones are over matched especially so at the skills.

Bingo.
Double Bingo.
All this analysis can be summed up in NIU05 comment. It’s like a high school sophomore team vs Varsity.
The only thing I’m worried about is enough of them sticking it out.
And if enough do, a wise man once said:
“Those who stay will be Champions.”

This is one of the silliest things I have ever read...
So the turnovers the kids on our D caused means they are physically better than the senior WR on Buffalo and CMU? No. No it doesn’t.
Bowers tripping over his feet and dropping the ball means he was not physically capable?
I mean...honestly this is a terrible take.
Physically they can compete. Turnovers are the result of not being prepared to compete. This is all on the coaches.
I like Hammock but so far he does not have his guys ready to play. Look at how bad we are in the second half of games. Not a result of not being physically able to compete. 100% a result of not being prepared to compete.

You beat me to this. All 4 TOS in game 1 were by experienced players.

RE: CMU Game Thoughts
I watched the first half again tonight and came away with a few more observations.
-CMU plays until just after the whistle on most plays, always getting that last shot in, and our guys should take a lesson from that. It's part of the "i'm here all day" attitude you want your team to have. CMU eventually imposed their will on our guys and that attitude is why. They just looked and seemed tougher.
-Similar to my impression from last week, our O line usually got their blocks on running downs. The problem was that someone was always coming in free to blow up the play. This was usually because our tight ends couldn't block anybody, or the defender was splitting a double team between a tight end and tackle, or our guys slanted and left one of their ends completely unblocked. Also because opponents are loading the box of course. May be some scheme things to look at, and they really have to do something about tight end. The lack of blocking there is a problem. Maybe put Evan Buss or Leif Engstrand there on occasion if the tight ends can't get it done.
-Pass blocking, on the other hand, is where credit can be distributed more evenly. No one on this team is pass blocking well at this point. We talk about switching QBs but holy hell is the pass protection bad. Like real bad. The backups are all freshmen so you have to work with what you've got but it's going to be a process when the whole unit needs improvement. I'm even more impressed with the defense after seeing the offense gain something like 12 yards from scrimmage in the second quarter.

Good. I couldn’t figure out how we were letting everyone else out there learn on the job yet we left bowers in as the game started to slip away.
