I’ve found fans are among the last consulted and considered, but the first tapped for money.

Only took a week since the "firing" was first in the news. Seems longer.

Isaac Brown

Let's see how he does this year. He definitely has the opportunity to be named permanent coach if he performs well. He's interviewed for head coaching spots the last few years.

I assume Brown is a current assistant, and this is interim?

Thanks. I was curious to see if the Matta thing worked out. Guess not for now, at least.

I'm pulling for WSU to recover quickly.

as much as i didn't care for marshall, or his (apparently drunk) wife's antics at games, i do hope WSU recovers quickly. The league needs them to step back up.
Hopefully, if they get the right guy for next season, he can pull things together, recruit well, and get them back on their feet ASAP

He's been an assistant at WSU for 7 years now. He knows the system, he's recruited most all of the kids on the team.

And yes, it's interim for now .. but he does have a chance to make it permanent IMO. He's interviewed for other head coaching jobs in the past couple of years.

The last I saw was that Matta was not interested in coaching WSU THIS SEASON. The wording seemed intentional. I don't think the door is closed yet on this.

Options I've seen floated that seem reasonable
  • Matta
  • Adrian Griffin (Raptors Assistant Coach)
  • Jans
  • Isaac Brown

Step 1: Get a contract with a 15 million dollar buyout after elevating your employer to heights they haven't seen in decades.
Step 2: Get fired for something that happened 5 years ago that your employer obviously knew about at that time.

WSU gave him half of what he was owed and likely made him sign an NDA. Firing for cause was going to be a tough sell if they knew about it 5 years ago and didnt' do anything.
