Yes, Marshall has every reason to play this game. With CUSA being so bad, there is basically zero chance of even an unbeaten Marshall getting the NY6 bid - unless something big is done to disrupt the narrative, and a win on the road at top-10 BYU would be big.
And if you lose, well, there's still the CUSA title to claim.
Cincy would have to lose twice. If we happen to beat BYU, we would jump Coastal by a lot. We are ahead of them in one poll anyway.
If you played and beat BYU, I don't think Cincy would have to lose twice. Cincy's rank, like that of all G5, is tenuous. Lose a game and they will drop like a stone.

How about BYU at Cincy on December 26th? Play-in game for NY6 bid.
Winner goes to the Fiesta Bowl on Jan 2nd. Loser to the Peach Bowl on Jan 1st.
I know. I know. That has never been done before. A lot of stuff hasn't been done before this year. Cincy and BYU only have 10 regular season games scheduled.
7:30 EST on ABC.

Only as a last resort, meaning as opposed to playing no game at all. Traveling to Atlanta does BYU no good, and beating Georgia State is only better than not playing.
BYU will want to schedule teams like Liberty and Marshall that are ranked.
We don't gain anything either ...so..

FWIW, I'm hearing rumblings of a THANKSGIVING DAY game for BYU. I'm hoping it's BYU-Marshall....

Any two loss ACC team could play on that date as well on Dec 19th. ACC Championship will likely be these three teams ND, Miami, Clemson.

I'd be curious when was the last time Army played a major, "heavyweight" opponent that late in the season, other than Navy.
Pre-Covid, that weekend was going to be Army @UConn. I'd be shocked if they're willing to play BYU 2 weeks before Navy. But hey, it's 2020. If weirdshit is going to happen, this is the year for it!
Quote:If it's just not going to happen, consider Marshall for 11/27 or 11/28.
Marshall would jump on that immediately.
Quote:If SMU is still ranked after 11/21, BYU-SMU on 12/5 would be a great game.
Would BYU be willing to travel to Dallas for that?

I would expect BYU to play at home unless it’s just an irresistible opportunity. SMU this year is far from irresistible. Maybe they would go to Provo though.

True.

i guess you never know unless you ask. But that would be SMU’s 4th road game — and 3rd long road game — in 5 weeks:
11/07 @Temple
11/14 @Tulsa
11/21 Houston
11/28 @East Carolina
12/05 idle
12/12 idle (San Diego State @BYU)
12/19 AAC CG -teams TBA

Well, Cincy and BYU can't play-in for an NY6 bid because BYU is not eligible for the G5 NY6 bid that Cincy is eligible for.
Also, why would the CFP want to place the loser of this game in to an NY6 bowl? They would probably find more attractive candidates.

BYU's altitude gives them a huge home-field advantage. I wouldn't schedule them if I were SMU.

If BYU plays SMU on 12/5, I would expect it to be part of a 2-game series, with the game this year in Dallas.

Aresco supposedly asked the AAC teams not to schedule any more OOC games this season, so as to remain flexible with rescheduling postponed conference games.

If I was Ohio State this week I would have been on the phone to BYU. What will the Big Ten do, kick us out?

At least so far, all of SMU’s conference games have been played on schedule.

At BYU, yes. Other options, not so likely.

Herd just lost this week’s game with Charlotte due to them having COVID issues.
The next game isn’t until 12/5 hosting Rice.
I say get the BYU game together. Get it on National TV.
Let the best team win.
You have to play meaningful games to get respect. This would benefit both schools.

With the PAC12 considering allowing schools to schedule non-conference games with gaps created by covid-cancellations in conference, rumor is BYU-Utah might happen possibly on Nov 28.
