Spoofed robo-calls
I called for this precise thing a few years ago... looks like its happening

https://www.chron.com/cnet/article/Roboc...277448.php

I've always thought that this should be an easy fix. Make the caller ID number match the one sending, or have a registry so at least you can know who is calling and contact them if you must... Like how you could have a phone bank that always returns a single, legitimate return call line... but not report you're calling from 713.xxx.xxxx when you're really calling from overseas or out of the area.

FINALLY!!

RE: Spoofed robo-calls
I like my solution --- make every number a 'pay to call' number. A dime or so. And, have the ability of the receiver to waive the dime fee.

That technology already exists in the 800 and 900 number stuff.

So, if I get a call from a client -- I press a number before, after, or in the conversation and the caller gets the dime back. If it is spam, that dime stays with me -- their risk if I listen or not.

If you make the calls a no-loss proposition, spam callers will always do this. When you associate a cost with it, it dries up. easy peasy.

I love this idea! Make it a dollar a call!

I give the robo call spammers a couple of weeks to figure a way around STIR/SHAKEN, if they haven't already.

My current solution ... all calls not in my address book go straight to voicemail. If it's important enough to leave a message, I might call them back. We do miss some calls we would like to have taken, but that's a small price to not be bombarded.

What irritates me are offices, like doctors, who call from numbers not listed as their office numbers which are in our address books. We missed a call from my wife's father's cardiologist in AZ last week because he call from a number that popped up as NY. She didn't answer because she wasn't expecting a call from NY. Of course, he didn't answer when she called back.

RE: Spoofed robo-calls
That's the problem Tomball with these calls.

It seems simple to match the caller ID to the number actually calling.... or to a 'registered' exception (like ATT customer service using a single line for people all over the world)... so that at LEAST you have a 'real' number to call back/file complaints etc. I get calls from people saying 'I'm returning a call to you' when of course I never called. That's borderline 'identity theft' imo

I get a lot calls for which the Caller ID says "Out of Area', yet the area code shown is mine.
