An idea for USM: a new presidential candidate
I have followed USM's trials and tribulations from a distance, and one thing I have heard over and over is that the current president is not working out. I'm not entirely sure about that, but if USM does decide to replace him, I have an idea as to who USM might want to consider: Coastal Carolina's president. From what I read about him on the AGS forums, it seems like he had a situation at Coastal very similar to what USM currently has. CCU's president thought outside the box and did a lot to improve the university, despite operating at half the amount of funding Clemson and SC received. He might be worth a look at USM if USM decides it is time for a new direction at president.

Regardless of how one feels about Rodney Bennett...even though he nixed the Art Briles for OC hire (I think 95% of univ. presidents would've done the same)...he's not the one who solely decided to go with the "safe" hire in Jay Hopson. Of course the univ. prez signs off on it but that was mostly done by our inept (at the time) athletic leadership. Hopson was hired by Bill McGillis (2 AD's ago). They were just your normal "old hat, keep doing the same thing"...they refused to accept and embrace the fact that USM will always be a stepping stone job, NOT a destination job.

Just like out athletic leadership did w/ Eloss Johnson, they did the same thing w/ Jay Hopson...they wanted someone who wasn't going to leave after a tiny bit of success.

I don't think the Univ. Prez is the problem because we now seem to have a competent AD who understands USM's strength's and weaknesses in the CFB world. We're going to hire motivated coaches who want to win then move up. Then rinse/repeat. Because after all, loyalty isn't bringing fans to games. Winning does. So as long as we're winning we'll bring more fans to games. And by "winning" we aren't talking about 6-6/7-6...we're talking about winning championships.

Hire a coach who will come here, win a CUSA champ after a year or 2, then bolt for a P5 school. Then we rinse and repeat. The BIGGEST red flag when we interview a coach is when they get asked "where do you see yourself in 4-5 years"....if they reply with "coaching here at USM"........NOPE, next candidate.

RB needs to go. He has zero care about athletics being successful.

Anyone know whether there has ever been someone who became coach of a school he or she was an alumnus of, and stayed there despite offers to coach elsewhere for higher pay? Or is literally everyone out there just in it for the paycheck, and the highest bidder wins? Is there any sense of loyalty remaining in the world?

Keep the ideas coming but years of inept leadership will take years to overcome.

Thank you for your signature gif. I cannot tell you how many times that I have laughed at that since I first saw it on here.
