You can protest your virtue, but you aren't a virgin anymore. I prefaced the thread with a doubt it would happen anytime soon. But in the world of Covid, you never know.

No ain't virgin anymore, but we are going to have that re-virgining surgery to fool people.

I know you prefaced the statement but I had to add my bit.

RE: Scheduling the ACC if Notre Dame were to join
In and 8 game schedule:

ND -
Pitt/BC/Miami/Louisville every year
FSU/VT every other year
UNC/GT every other year
Syracuse/WF every other year
CU/NC State/Duke/UVa once every four years

CU -
GT/FSU/WF/Louis

UNC/NC State
VT/UVa
Miami/BC

ND/Pitt/Louisville/Syracuse

NC State-
UNC/Duke/Wake/UVa

CU/GT
FSU/Miami
Pitt/VT

ND/BC/Syracuse/Louisville

It's about who you don't want to play every year as well as who you want to play. This allows you to geographically pack your schedule.

This leaves ND room for Navy/USC and two more.
This leaves CU room for SC, another SEC team and two more

well, you’re not the decider ...
they are ...

UNANIMOUS VERDICT

The students voted that they liked ND beating the #1 team in the nation.

That had nothing to do with joining the ACC permanently. Zero.

If that game had been between independent ND and ACC Clemson (as originally scheduled), they would have still been out there on the field.

MISTRIAL

RE: Scheduling the ACC if Notre Dame were to join
“I hope they do,” Narduzzi said Monday, when asked if he’d like to see Notre Dame join the ACC permanently. “To me, it’s either you play with us or don’t play with us. You know? You’d almost like to boycott them. But if you want to play in the ACC, come play in the ACC. ... And if you don’t want to play, let’s not give them five games. Let them go play BYU or whoever else they want to play. We shouldn’t be giving them games. But they’re talented, and we’d love to have them in the ACC for sure.”

Narduzzi coming in hot.

Five?

Duke
NC State
Wake
Virginia
Georgia Tech or Notre Dame

I imagine ND would choose:

Miami
BC
Pitt
Georgia Tech
Louisville? Certainly makes sense as a regional rival. Or perhaps Syracuse at the Meadowlands.

RE: Scheduling the ACC if Notre Dame were to join
For VT, I have 2 options:

Local : UVA, UNC, Duke, Wake, NCSU
Has all the teams ,the fans of which I interact with, in normal times.

Regional : UVA, Miami, GT, UNC, Duke.
Looks a lot like the coastal division. Clemson or GT would be fine but I'm not sure either would pick VT as a permanent rival. Miami has a lot of history as being the biggest draw on our home schedule. UNC/Duke = 2 schools from North Carolina. What's the point of having 4 North Carolina schools in your conference if you can't play 2 of them every year (being a VA school anyway)? FSU, I'd probably want to have on the schedule now, but historically we haven't had much luck beating FSU. Pitt, I feel like they were our 2nd biggest rival in the Big East behind WVU. They'd be pretty high on my list too.

But I really like the idea. Do you have it worked out for the entire conference?

True. Either the number of teams or the number of games (or both) MUST be an even number.

However, you can split into divisions of 7 and 8 teams, with the 7 playing 8 games and the 8 teams playing 9 games. That DOES work, though you end up with one pair of teams in the bigger division playing each other twice (home and home) every year.

RE: Scheduling the ACC if Notre Dame were to join
My preference for UVA...

Five permanent: VT, UNC, Duke, NCState and GT

The 8 game schedule with 4 (annual rivals), 3 (playing 6 schools for every other year) and 1 (1 of 4 teams with longer rotations) has some merit...
Annual: VT, UNC, Duke and GT
Bi-annual: Wake/NCState, Clemson/FSU, Miami/Pittsburgh
Rotating: Louisville, ND, Syracuse and BC

GT, FSU, Miami, VT, Louisville or Wake

The rest don't matter.

I put in Louisville instead of Duke.

Carolina:

Duke/NC State/UVa/Wake

GT/CU
VT/Pitt
FSU/Miami

ND/BC/Syracuse/Louisville

FSU:

Miami/Clemson/Louisville/GT

ND/Pitt
UNC/NCSU
UVa/VT

WF/Duke/BC/Syracuse

BC:

ND/Pitt/Syracuse/Louisville

FSU/UM
UNC/NCSU
Clemson/VT

Duke/WF/UVa/GT

The general gist is that no one wants to travel to BC or Syracuse every other year because of where they are and many don't want to go to Clemson every other year to take an ass whipp'n. However, if you make longer trips a rarer affair, the allure of the trip grows. That should sell more visitor tickets. You see 10 foes at least every other year.

It also allows you to miss a Juggernaut that is outside your region every so often. This can help your program grow. As Clemson is now, who wants to schedule a second game that year against a potential top 10 or 15 school? No one in the ACC other than Clemson.

I'll have to assume that the Clemson/Duke game would be a once every four year affair? Once ever four years is about as much Clemson that Duke would want to see on the football field.

Correct. Let's face it, in a non-Covid year, a game at Clemson can easily ruin your season especially if you have to play the week after and you don't stockpile talent past your two-deep. Clemson went to the third team at some positions and still SHOULD have beaten ND.

Georgia Tech and Florida State do it every season.

Anyway, I like your concept even though you have an inconsistency with Carolina and Notre Dame. I imagine it’s difficult to accurately construct this matrix.

Do you have a model for 14 without ND?

I enjoyed the recent games vs. Georgia, South Carolina, and LSU, but I understand playing them every season isn't possible. I think most fans welcome those games over the likes of Cal Berkley, Minnesota, and UCF. The upcoming schedules don't look very appealing.

I'd definitely like to see a series vs. Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Florida. Kentucky as well.
