We'll assume your question is to Rice's administration. The rest of C-USA (excluding ODU) have been waiting for Rice to show up to this football season for a while.

FU....maybe we give the championship to a team that a. won all their games and b. cancelled and/or postponed none?

Why would LA Tech cancel a home game (Rice), a game against ULM in Shreveport (maybe), and then play two CUSA road games at FIU and UNT.......UNLESS of course, UAB loses another CUSA game this season (to UTEP?), which would put LA Tech in the drivers seat for the CUSA Western division title and a spot in the CUSA championship game?

Skip knows all this of course. Skip may have decided to not play another CUSA game until he sees how UAB fares against UTEP (on 11/20) & S Miss (on 11/27). Skip knows that LA Tech has already played 5 CUSA conference games (3-2 record) and that UAB (2-1) has only played 3. (The UAB vs N TX game is also postponed this weekend) So, why should LA Tech take all the risk unnecessarily? There are no brownie points being given this year for LA Tech to play 8 CUSA games while UAB plays only 6, or 7 (7 only if the UNT game can get rescheduled, which it currently is not). Skip knows all this, and is in the position to cancel the Rice game with no penalty, avoid any chance of another conference loss, and take a "wait and see" attitude toward the rest of the season. He knows he has already played more conference games than UAB will likely play this entire season, so why risk it?

Yep. This is a strategic cancellation, but they are just not going to tell you that. I hope some of you are keeping up at home.

Which is exactly why cancelled and un-played postponed conference games should be forfeits by the cancelling team.

Most teams have 15’scholarship offensive linemen. You should feel comfortable going into a game with 7-8.

Is this the reason then that LaTech “postponed” The Rice game?

No. But to the actual question you asked... Rice kept Rice off the field to begin the season.

True, but 2 of our four OOC (LSU, Lamar) games were canceled by the other team. Two conference games were also postponed by us (Marshall, UAB), but are now rescheduled. The two conference games we have missed were canceled by the other team(LTU, UTSA).

So the scoreboard now reads 0 conference games canceled by Rice, 2 canceled by other teams.

Maybe time to redirect your blame casting finger.

Yeah, delaying your football season for the month of September had nothing to do with it. And now you've already filled up the two weeks extension the conference added. Silly me.

UAB cancelled next weeks game with UTEP today. No make up dates available. One less conference game for the Blazers and Miners.

..That's because UAB doesn't WANT to play UTEP. UAB wants the easist path possible to the CUSA Champioinship game. UAB can play Southern MIss and Rice and get there with a win. Playing UTEP in El Paso was not a guaranteed win this year.

So, now you know what I'm talking about. It's a "strategic cancellation" for UAB.

Somebody please go sell Tech80 some swamp land. That boy will believe anything. His middle name is "gullible". 03-lmfao

Agreed. Sad if schools are allowed to use this health crisis in such a cowardly manner.

I agree, too. It's absurd that coaches are allowed to use COVID as an excuse to cancel games at this point. If a coach can't manage his team well enough to have 22 players ready to go on Saturday, then he should be forced to eat a forfeit if he cancels a game.

I don’t think any school or coach is doing this.
Well based on what the hog guy said.......

Oh, hell yeah, they are doing it. Including LA Tech. But I'm sure Skip Holtz cancelled the Rice game this week because his Tech team has already played so many more conference games than UAB has, and UAB is in 1st place in the west even after Tech beat 'em. I've already explained all this in the previous post. So, go reread it if you are having trouble keeping up.

Bottom line is, why should UAB (or anyone else for that matter) play a tough CUSA team (UTEP) on the road and risk losing 1st place in the west if they can play weaker teams (USM & Rice) at home and still hold on to first place?

OK by me. Makes Rice 3-1. Thanks for the offer.

But I still don't think anybody is trying to manage their way to a division championship by ducking games. that would make the Championship pretty much meaningless.
