Monday Musings
Another tough loss to a meh MAC east team.
700k people watched CMU vs Ohio or CMU filling Kelly shorts 25 consecutive times which won't happen in my lifetime.
Maybe we could petition to play Wisconsin's schedule the rest of the year as we fare better in the big ten then the MAC of late.
Ball State is always a lynch pin game in MBB and Football if you lose you are not going to be any good if you win you are at least mediocre.
Why does Matt Shepard continue to play by play for football do the Tigers not pay him enough money?

RE: Monday Musings
Shep actually came to my high school during career day about 17 years ago, and I remember him saying how much he loved doing what he does, and it seemed sincere. I think the Tigers pay him plenty...he just likes staying busy and calling sporting events, and he’s always been the jack of all trades in Detroit. Glad he still calls our games, but I’m sure that will change next year when (if?) we go back to a normal schedule that overlaps with Tiger baseball.

Shep also does UM basketball. I wouldn't be surprised if UM football comes calling someday. Brandstatter and Dierdorf are both in their 70s and, in my opinion, not very good. Of course, the high and mighty Wolverines will want a "Michigan Man" on the air so we'll see.

RE: Monday Musings
Your spot on in that it seems, whether FB, MBB, or WBB, that to truly compete we have to beat Ball State. Hopefully the boys come out strong Wednesday.

Shep no longer does U-M basketball. I remember hearing from someone connected on the Michigan side that he wanted to, but their partnership with Learfield/IMG was adamant to have a singular voice that could be there from the first game to the national championship, and wouldn't have to skip out on the postseason to go to Lakeland with the Tigers. Brian Bush (I think it's spelled differently than that, but not really important) is their PxP voice now. Though Shep's son still works over there in some capacity.

Last season was his first with the Tigers and he joined the EMUFB booth after four weeks, with Tom Helmer doing those games in the meantime. Tom was the studio host (which was WAY better than some of the students, I assume, that have done it in the past) for the opener. Imagine he'll continue in some sort of compliment role. Tom and Rube's chemistry improved over last season, but Shep and Rubes are so fun to listen to. You can tell they have a great relationship both working and personally just from the way they interact on air.

I understanding that there were issues getting a team set for EMU FB broadcast.

Remember, all of the on air personalities mentioned above. And remember Chad was the on the field color person one year.

I can see EMU FB broadcast situation being 'messy' because Shep has that summer gig, Tigers' baseball.

EMU basketball, baseball, etc. should be a no brainer. Just build around Chad.

But nooooooooooo.

Strange as it might seem, some of the best EMU MBB broadcasts were when Chad was 'flying solo.' It's hard to cover MBB solo but we don't have announcers stepping over each other, etc.

BTW, way off topic, but the worst sport is MLB. The game is so slow which means announcers are left talking about spin rates in air conditioned domes and I go: 03-banghead
