Are Justin Fuente, Mike Norvell, Scott Frost, Tom Herman and Geoff Collins bad coaches? None of them have had the same success that they had in the AAC. Josh Heipel has been ok and Applewhite, Holgorson, Collins and Charlie Strong have been failures.
So OF COURSE we are concerned about how bad our defense is and OF COURSE Silverfield isn't a sure thing, but given all that has happened, losing 3 stars, and that we are 4-2; it is insane to say that Silverfield is a bust, that he is on the hot seat, or comparing him to Pastner. It is crazy.
We will be no worse than 6-4 and might even be 8-2 and playing in the AACG before our bowl game. Let's wait and see what happens.

Good post. I would submit we’ve lost more than 3 stars, injuries plus Covid, plus new coaches, plus the defense style and leadership has been a roller coaster ride for several years. A small step back can happen the most successful of programs.

I woke in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, imagining we still had Rip Scherer’s offense.

Remember the first 3 plays of the Porter era? 3 straight illegal formation penalties in a row...

I do. I was in total shock, and amazed at what I saw. Amazed in a bad way.

So I just checked the records for the last 16 years to see what ours has been after 6 games. Except for the last 5 years where we have experienced the best football we have ever seen since the 60's, the last time we were better than 4-2 was in 2004 when we were 5-1 after six games. We lost our next two game and finished the year at 9-4.
RE: Just In Case Some Of Our "Fans" Don't Know Who We Are...
I just don’t know how anyone can make a decision on any coach’s first year (not counting Porter’s first year). Add in Covid and lack of spring practice and new coaches and everything that’s happened over the course of the last few months and it makes it an extremely difficult first year. We lost to SMU after not practicing for almost 3 weeks on a last second field goal and got run off the field by a team that is running everyone off the field.

Yep. Miss St on national TV. I thought it was 4.

I remember some illegal formation penalties at home games, but I don't see that on the game play-by-play for the 2010 game at Miss State.
RE: Just In Case Some Of Our "Fans" Don't Know Who We Are...
I thought it was a illegal formation, delay of game, and then a false start. But there is no way I remember anything correctly from any football game I was at.

Yeah, when I read where bubbapt said "3 straight illegal formation penalties in a row" I was thinking "No way. I remember 2 and I can't say they were back to back, maybe real close together though." It was our 1st play, I recall.
Porter said after the game that they had conferred with the officials beforehand and had been told it was OK. Now, whether it wasn't explained correctly to them or whether it was SEC officials wanting to hose us, I can't say.

Glad I was proven wrong.
I had a bad feeling from the start because of all the over-the-top hyping. We had been playing some "real football" under Stobart, despite the blunders and shooting ourselves in the foot so many times. Yeah, he did have some thug players as the rumors went, I suppose, and then whatever about not fitting the booster social scene, so I'm not saying it was wrong to part ways. I went to the Mississippi State game in Starkville to open the Rip era and came away thinking we had taken several steps backward.
