RE: Coach Freeze Just Beat Fuente
I actually think in the short term, Norvell and Fuente would be better at each other's jobs. Norvell would recruit better and might be able to get VT over the hump, but isn't proven rebuilding a program. I think Fuente would be great getting FSU back on track, but doesn't recruit well enough to get to the next level.

Time will tell, but it seems that their strengths work better at the other school.

I disagree on Norvell's situation. I watched FSU a couple times early in the season (including its loss to GT). FSU's lack of team speed was shocking (I was in school at GT through the mid 90's and saw 90s FSU up close a few times). Jimbo, in his last couple years, and Taggert, in his 2 years, left the cupboard pretty bare. The main thing that FSU needs right now is talent. Norvell will be able to recruit. I expect him to out recruit Mullen. Talent is the main thing they need.

Beamer never had highly-rated talented recruiting classes. He coached them up. You would think that Fuente fits that model pretty well.

I’m not doubting what you saw with your own eyes, but this has come up before. I suppose any coach wants to recruit players that fit his system, but I can’t see where Norvell was left with an empty cupboard.

Fisher’s last four classes at FSU (‘14-‘17) had national rankings of #4, #3, #3 & #4. Taggart (‘18-‘19) brought in #18 & #22. Norvell held on to #22 for ‘20 and is currently looking at #21 for ‘21.

FSU has lost three straight to NC St, Pitt & Louisville. Average class rankings over the past three years (‘18-‘20) are:

FSU - 17
NC St - 34
Pitt - 49
Louisville - 47

I just don’t see where they are getting beat by superior talent. Norvell is off to a rough start in a wacko year and I hope he is given time to establish his own culture. Recruiting in the state of Florida should take care of itself.

You make an argument that 100% supports what I just said...but you disagree. It's a bit odd.

Not many, if any, HCs will be fired for this season's on-field performance.

But he is a dead man walking there. Just not a good fit in any way.

Will Muschamp is gone, however. How he ever got hired by South Carolina is beyond me.

I think the issue with Fuente is that he hasn't done well with his QB recruiting and coaching. I mean, Lynch was an absolute beast his last 2 years and he pretty much catapulted us back into the big time. And that lead to Fuente's hiring.

Fuente will probably get a pass this year, but he's clearly on the hot seat.

The quarterback thing is odd. Under him, Andy Dalton became a star, he got Lynch drafted in the 1st round and even managed a season with 14 TD's and 3 interceptions out of Karam. If he should have been good at one thing, one would think it would have been developing solid quarterbacks.

3 times in a row? That isn't even counting putting all those others in the NFL. We've had 7 years in a row of sustained success. In the last 7 years we are the #2 scoring offense in the entire NCAA.

Pure luck?

Interesting in-state candidate who is probably not ready for an SEC job just yet. Chadwell moved over seamlessly to head coach after Joe Moglia became AD. In his second year, he is only 15-16 total but off to an impressive 7-0 start in 2020. His response after being asked about his interest in South Carolina was interesting.

A recipe for disaster. There's no telling why they are good, no telling if he can have sustained success, and no telling if he can handle the job. Also, a primer when it comes to most fanbases who believe that you should be able to hire a much better candidate than you actually can, AND that your hire will succeed.

That is interesting. Especially when you watch them play.
Makes me wonder how many of those recruits are still on campus? Probably been a lot of turnover from those top 20 classes.
