I have a few nieces and nephews that graduated from Liberty and my family has a long history in the church (that includes all all the bs as well) and I am happy to see them having a great year BUT this belief that this will continue is silly. Once Freeze leaves, which I think he will at the end of this year (might not make it to the bowl game) they are going to get a big dose of reality. I believe their commitment to the program and the money they can spend will help get over the hump but this exuberance that they are above CUSA or any G5 is ridiculous and it will be proven in the next couple years.

You underestimate the money liberty generates as an online degree mill - and passing the plate. They will buy another Freeze, and whatever else they need.

Couldn’t disagree more. The level of a Freeze isn’t available every time you need a new coach. If it was that easy everyone would do it. Tell me me who at that level will be available to fill his position in December.

Art Briles. You heard it here first.

If the game is close, like this one, ACC refs will do everything possible to make sure G5 team doesn't win.

I don’t think Freeze is going anywhere unless it’s a destination job. Liberty can compete $ for $ with middling P5’s like South Carolina. It’s going to take one of the most prestigious jobs in all of college football to get Freeze out of Lynchburg anytime soon.

Probably true.

I’m not saying Freeze is holding out for LSU or Texas. But he’s not going to leave for Vanderbilt or Baylor, either. The tricky part is if he gets an offer from somewhere in the middle.

Freeze is making $2.5million at Liberty in Lynchburg VA, that's an exceptional salary for that location. I agree he'd have to be headed to a school that's won a national championship before. I would say Tennessee, Michigan are the only schools that would appeal to Freeze. Most of the other potential vacancies don't look to be that appealing to leave $2.5million/yr.

Greetings from a Liberty alumni and huge fan. Freeze is actually making a little over 3M a year. That puts in the same area as Fickle at UC(3.2M I believe) Freeze has said only a couple places would even tempt him. The 2 that Liberty fans would fear the most are Auburn and TN. Michigan makes no sense for Freeze, he's never coached north or the mason dixon line and I just don't see that happening.
Personally I believe Freeze is one of the top 4-5 coaches in the country. What he's doing at Liberty is nothing short of amazing. Keep in mind he's only had one full FBS recruiting class at Liberty. Most of the roster is made up of kids that were recruited at the FCS level. He recently said they've paused recruiting b/c being in the top 25 for a couple weeks will totally change things. 3-4 kids have already decommitted and they happen to be 2* or no star type kids.
One other thing. Liberty is no longer affiliated with Falwell Jr. (thank goodness) He was asked to resign a couple months ago. A large majority of alumni are hoping that Liberty becomes less political and focuses more on academics and providing a world class Christian education.

They're not going to be able to hire a coach with Freeze's SEC pull and skill at the associated more dubious recruiting practices that often. G5 remains the land of up and coming young coaches and retreads on the way down. The money is a help, sure, but that's the pattern pretty much across the G5.

He doesn’t get it.

Like with anything in college football....only time will tell. Liberty lost a tough game today but they look like they have a bright future but again....only time will tell. FAU on the other hand...sure they have quite a few possibilities of their own but let's see what happens over the next 5 to 10 years (which probably seems like centuries in todays college football world). I hope every G-5 program continues to get better...it will only help college football overall.

You obviously know nothing about what’s happening at FAU but nice try at the dig.

Wasn't meant as a dig in any way shape or form at FAU or anyone else...I just meant only time will tell how sustainable success will be for any program in the current college football landscape. I actually followed the Lane Train years and hope that success continues during Taggart's (and Leavitt as DC) run. It's what happens after a successful coach most likely leaves (like HF at Liberty for example) that remains to be seen. It's unfortunate but the G5 success formula for coaches usually ends up with the P5 universities poaching these very same successful G5 coaches before they can have a 5 to 10 year run.

If they do the above a lot of the issues university presidents have against them will go away.

Coaches matter and they bring in assistants that matter.. it doesn’t just happen because you have money or Oregon, Georgia etc. would win every year.

Winning Liberty's schedule is easier than winning Georgia and Oregon's schedules.
