It’s the only way to try to compete with the AAC... that is, to create a best of the rest.. just as the AAC did.

RE: OT: Liberty
As a Liberty alum & fan, it’s exciting to see others talk about us & our success! In the excitement of our biggest win in program history, it can be easy to get a big head, but honestly, it’s nice to have a day like this to be so excited!

I think the biggest thing on everyone’s mind is what the future looks like with more potential realignments & hopes of advancing our programs to the best possible level. In the wake of being undefeated at 7-0 with two ACC victories in our second full-FBS eligible season, it’s easy for us Liberty fans to just think that this will continue & we’ll always be on people’s minds, especially with our men’s basketball being so good the last two seasons. However, I think that as time goes on & we see our actual standing over an extended time, most of us would be happy to just see our program rise to a better Olympic sports conference than our current situation, & see the football team have successful seasons year after year, whether in a solid conference or as Independents.

Excuse our overzealous excitement in the meantime, & Go Flames!

No, it won’t be excused and little tolerated.

Phuck you and the horse you rode in on.

A word of advice to you my friend is to ignore idiots if you pay more attention its probably going to make their urge to troll even harder or perhaps that LT fan and NT fan are into cuckhold and are considering being in the company of college of cuck we will never know. Just ignore.

Some folks just don’t get it. Their recently fired nepotistic president liked to watched a pool boy with his wife. And that is just scratching the surface of Falwell U. Hmm, I wonder why CUSA rejected their buy-in offer to the conference??

You know, that "school" is offensive to my sensibilities. Yes, they are horrifically ideological, but I can live with that. I can not live with C-USA's brass claiming that we care about academics if Liberty's membership is even remotely considered (I hope it is not).

No worries mate. The CUSA ship sailed long ago. We wouldn’t accept an invite now anyway. On to bigger and better.

LOL as if you were getting invited. Brace for impact or isn't that what they teach in the cuck 101 at that sham they call a school.

I bet you don't, may replace you, definitely another team you can't beat

We do not need a school whose education standards are even below Marshall's. They can go pound sand.

Personally I don't get the academics argument. Do I get a Rice degree because I went to a school in a conference with Rice? For that matter does my school get in money or press coverage because Rice has strong admission standards? Would any of our schools want to be in the ivy league for athletics?

This is an athletic conference,. Pick schools based on athletics.

Are we a beer league? We are an association of education institutions, where athletics are just one of many aspects. Our players are not just athletes, they are student athletes. As such, it does matter what company we keep. We should avoid Liberty like plague.

Wow! such diverging opinions here. If the Liberty football team was not playing at all, or was losing big time, as are some other schools who shall remain nameless, no one would even be having this conversation. As it stands the Flames are 7-0, including 2-0 vs. P5. They are not doing this with smoke & mirrors. On the field, which is what matters in sports' competition, Liberty is doing well. Some of the criticism smacks of envy and jealousy. Oh well...

I don't have a dog in this fight, because my dawg is limping along and I am just hoping for a winning season and a bowl win!

Message board fans with varying opinions apparently every time some team win vs a p5 its like lets have them in the conference thread shows up. This time its one of your LT fans decided to be cute about that and wanted to drop ODU and add them because they bet VT by 3 and he simply forgot one of our worst teams did that in the recent past and not by a FG but by 2 TD's. Not that i care about that but i was replaying to this crappy Luhbutty fan that was here saying they wouldn't accept an invite and what not as if there was an invitation extended.

JMO but I think that east coastish conference should take advantage of the fact that there are 3 ranked teams available in a tight geographic area and form that conference very soon, like by the end of this school year. Strike while the irons hot.

Just so you know, winless FIU was within two points against them, 2-6 WKU lost to them by 6, a better C-USA team would beat them.

I think success and failure at our level is really cyclical. Yes, building a conference around best programs is wise, however, I understand many of us have our ups and downs.

UTEP is a great example. The early years of CUSA 2.0 proved what a healthy and competitive UTEP provides, and now it seems as is you are on the upswing.

Coastal Carolina and Liberty could absolutely fall flat right back down. We are all one coaching staff purge away from the basement.

I think if a split occurs, it wont be to acquire new talent, it will come from a majority on the East coming together, finding commonality with some of the best Sunbelt programs, and then a rift could occur.

RE: OT: Liberty
I'm not for expanding the conference to admit anyone's at this time. On the flip side, if two schools would care to bow out and get us back to a more reasonable number, I wouldn't be sad about it, although I wouldn't force that change. I have candidates in mind, but will keep that to myself for the purposes of this discussion.

I would be very amenable to an East/West split among the SB and CUSA schools, and that event I would have no problem with either JMU or Liberty forming part of a new East Coast G5 conference. I think this will happen, eventually, but no clue on when.

Now as to Liberty's win against VT, congratulations. Impressive win that they should relish with gusto. Just remember that ODU did the same thing a couple of years ago, and it didn't mean much in the long run. It's always going to be a "what have you done for me lately" scenario for all of us.

All in all, I mostly agree with this, but keep in mind:

The year ODU beat VPI, the game was played in Norfolk, the Gobblers went 5-7 against FBS teams that season and the Monarchs went 3-8 against FBS teams.

We’ll have to wait a few weeks to make a full comparison with LU/VPI for this year, but the game was played in Blacksburg, and it seems like LU and VPI are both going to have winning records.

Even if you want to avoid liberty, I would take JMU in a heartbeat...great academics and strong football attendance by FCS standard. They averaged 22,000 a game last year.

Sometime to also keep in mind about that 2018 season. It was Liberty's first season to transition out of FCS. The Flames defeated Old Dominion 52-10 in the season opener three weeks before ODU hosted Virginia Tech.

I spoke to a Monarch friend shortly after they beat VPI. He said “Preseason, we all expected to split those 2 games” (LU and VPI) “But not like this!”
