RE: OT: Liberty
My two cents regarding Liberty. I have a few nieces and nephews that graduated from Liberty and my family has a long history in the church (that includes all all the bs as well) and I am happy to see them having a great year BUT this belief that this will continue is silly. Once Freeze leaves, which I think he will at the end of this year (might not make it to the bowl game) they are going to get a big dose of reality. I believe their commitment to the program and the money they can spend will help get over the hump but this exuberance that they are above CUSA or any G5 is ridiculous and it will be proven in the next couple years.

You underestimate the money liberty generates as an online degree mill - and passing the plate. They will buy another Freeze, and whatever else they need.

Couldn’t disagree more. The level of a Freeze isn’t available every time you need a new coach. If it was that easy everyone would do it. Tell me me who at that level will be available to fill his position in December.

Eventually, dollars are going to reach a point where coaches are going to realize that certain non Power Conference jobs are where it's at. Freeze is at a place where they are willing to pay him $3 million a year to coach a sportsball sport, and if he stays there long enough they'll build a statue of him outside the stadium.

Coaches are competitive but nature, and I get that to a degree. Kiffin had too big an ego to stay at an FAU, but I feel like FAU is also the type of program that could eventually pay a near top shelf guy $2 million a year to coach in 'paradise', win titles here and there, and get the statue built outside of the stadium.

Maybe I'm overestimating the value of the proverbial 'getting a statue named after you' attribute. But that is the one thing that all that head coaching money can't buy. Freeze can be Liberty's Bear or Saban. Liberty has the long term potential to be huge. Why wouldn't I want to be a Mr. Program for millions per year, or go to random SEC school and get fired after 4 years of 'Bama winning titles and be forgotten by all parties.

That is a ridiculous response. Seriously, really?

I wanted to edit to say “a stupid response”.

What is stupid is that you think freeze is some precious coach who can’t be replaced.

Thinking that Liberty can just plug and play a high level coach like Freeze and keep them where they are is stupid. Coaches matter and they bring in assistants that matter.. it doesn’t just happen because you have money or Oregon, Georgia etc. would win every year.

They're not going to be able to hire a coach with Freeze's SEC pull and skill at the associated more dubious recruiting practices that often. G5 remains the land of up and coming young coaches and retreads on the way down. The money is a help, sure, but that's the pattern pretty much across the G5.

Like with anything in college football....only time will tell. Liberty lost a tough game today but they look like they have a bright future but again....only time will tell. FAU on the other hand...sure they have quite a few possibilities of their own but let's see what happens over the next 5 to 10 years (which probably seems like centuries in todays college football world). I hope every G-5 program continues to get better...it will only help college football overall.
