Perception is reality. Not to be a jerk, Boise is a much bigger brand name than let's say Tulane. Adding Boise makes it seem like more of a power conference, which is the goal. Plus ESPN seems to love them. Also, I don't believe they would be sucking up any money, but they may add money.

Tulane never really had a brand
If anything, their future seems bright
