My guess is this is the first of many similar stories you'll see in the coming weeks - Michigan is basically telling its students to stay home for the spring semester.

School I have an affiliation with (non-D1) announced spring would be online in August. Online courses just don’t come anywhere near replicating the interactions/camaraderie/potential friendships of in-person classes.
