RE: UTSA Game Postponed
I know the fault thing is facetious - but some of us did argue that since the virus status was unlikely to change starting sooner rather than later made more sense so that when these issues arose there was more scheduling flexibility. Don't get me wrong I would have been fine with cancelling the entire season, at least that's a bold call. But as it is sure wish we had played 8 games and then had a week off instead of 2.

1 loss would tie the school record for fewest losses in a season (also 1916, 1917, 1919, 1934 and 1949). 1 win would still be better than 1988, 1982 and 1968, and would equal the win total from 9 other seasons in Rice annals.

RE: UTSA Game Postponed
I'd expect the La Tech game to happen next week @La Tech since neither them nor Rice are the reasons for the postponements. Our schedule became tougher with Marshall and UAB added, and UTSA subtracted. I'd replace Marshall with UTSA now, since divisional games are more important for the conference race.

Marshall game will be canceled and UTSA will replace it. We should have just started playing from September onwards...grave error by the administration assuming the Rice approach to COVID was the only thing that mattered with regard to athletic competitions

Does me, just wondering how many more.

RE: UTSA Game Postponed
Got this email from JK today. Not sure of the purpose other than to say, it’s not my fault fans can’t attend home games.

Dear Owl Fans and Family,

In the aftermath of a decisive win last weekend against Southern Miss, there was great anticipation that you would have the chance to welcome our football team home in person to cheer them on against UTSA today.

The fact that COVID-19 related issues at UTSA led to the postponement of today’s game doesn’t diminish the sentiments that I’m about to share.

I was so proud of the effort our team put forth in the face of so many challenges, against a team that has held the upper hand in our series of late. I was excited to think ahead to this Saturday and what it would feel like to deliver another great performance, in front of our own fans on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Rice Stadium.

You have been with us since the pandemic first brought a sudden halt to our seasons, as well as our everyday lives in March, and your support is critical to our student-athletes. I know so well how much every success attained by these young men and women means to you and the pride you have in this university.

Having fans in our venues, supporting our student-athletes, is of the utmost importance to us. Our student-athletes thrive off of our home crowd and our department depends on the revenue generated at each home event. Every game without fans takes away from the overall experience for our student-athletes and deals a significant financial blow to the department.

We have worked diligently to come up with robust plans to safely welcome you back to our venues. We have submitted multiple plans with this goal in mind, but due to the increasing prevalence of COVID-19 in the greater Houston area, and on our campus, the university’s senior leadership team responsible for the health and safety aspects of our pandemic response has not felt comfortable in taking that step, beyond letting the families of our players be in the stadium for home games.

We are grateful for the trust that the university has placed in us to allow our student-athletes to return to competition and we will continue to support their efforts on mitigating the spread of the virus and keeping our campus safe. The minimal positivity rate on campus, which should not be taken for granted, is a testament to their leadership and vigilance.

We will continue to present our case on why we feel confident that we can provide a safe environment for our community to support our Owls in person when we host UTEP in three weeks. We will continue to work diligently to welcome you back as soon as possible.

Thanks and GO OWLS!

The Bloomgren quotes in the Chronicle story today support the UTSA game coming back onto the schedule in place of the trip to Marshall.

And you know this how? Stop with the whining and the B.S. Nobody wants fans in HRS more than the Athletic Department. That's a fact.

The Athletic Department wants an athletic program, I think. They don't have jobs without one. But considering the unceremonious way they fired the guy who is probably the main reason why we have one now, I'm not entirely certain.

And I don't have a clue whether the administration wants one or not.

The decision was forced upon the Athletic Department by the University administration. I called the ticket office to find out what was happening with my season ticket and that is what I figured out from what was said. i hope there will be a baseball season so I can apply the money to that.
