BREAKING: The @bigten Conference will not have non-conference games against non #BigTen teams in 2021 in baseball or softball, sources tell
@d1baseball. Coaches, however, are expected to aim for as many games as possible. More to come.

I realize this is an old update but isn't that note redundant? Wouldn't it be easier just to say the Big Ten Conference is not having non-conference games, period?

Technically I suppose they could play non-conference games against conference opponents but then you still have to deal with the fact that Michigan State and Michigan can't really play outdoor baseball in February without going to Florida, generally speaking.

I wonder if they're planning "non-conference" mid-week games against nearby conference opponents.

Off topic but great baseball news for Bowling Green. As part of MLB's minor league restructuring the Bowling Green Hot Rods have been moved up to an advanced A affiliate with the Tampa Bay Rays. Good to not only keep the team but move up one level. Over the past twelve years 54 Hot Rods have gone to the majors including nine MLB All-stars, one Cy Young award winner and two gold gloves. This past season ten Hot Rod alums played in the 2020 World Series for the Rays and Dodgers. The Rays farm system was rated #1 by several national publications. WKU always plays one or two games a year at their stadium against name opponents.

I was excited to see that as well. It would have been terrible to lose minor league baseball and have an empty stadium

It would be cool if y'all could schedule some games against them. I know West Point has played the Yankees in the past.

Definitely a huge and beautiful structure but is deserving of more than 1,000 permanent seats. Sorta like buying a huge bag of cornflakes and upon opening it find its a lot of fluff and air, only about a third full. I know there is SRO and berm space to acomodate more but bringing in a team like Arkansas will result in a lot of people not wanting to stand or sit on the ground.

The big question is "Are there restrooms inside?" or do 'fans' still have to relieve themselves out by the train tracks?

That leaves about 6 midweeks.

Hope it's two 9-inning games on Saturday. Not 7.

The Saturday doubleheaders are 7-inning games.

https://www.wxxv25.com/2021/01/07/confer...-schedule/

Two 9s may have been too much, but I was hoping for a 7-inning game followed by a 9-inning game. In that format if the first game went extra innings, the second game would be reduced to 7 innings automatically.

Berry was on the radio today. He said we're releasing our schedule within 2 weeks. Waiting on a few "very good" opponents to see how their conference framework works out. FAU and WKU are our crossovers.

Sounds like we had FSU lined up on the road but it fell through when the ACC went to 36 games. It's been replaced with some unnamed team we're doing a H/H with.

It was also leaked on Twitter that UConn will come here for a weekend.

Looking forward to it. I went by the ticket office last week to pay the deposit for season tickets and was told there was no guarantee that everyone who pays the deposit would get season tickets this year as capacity hasn't been determined but that they were partly waiting on the schedule to be released so they would have a final cost of season tickets. With capacity being around 4300 that would limit capacity to just under 1100 if 25% is being used. Considering we average 3000 fans that could be one tough ticket this spring.

I saw on UConn's twitter where they announced that as well. We are also hosting Jacksonville St for a weekend series and we have a single game midweek vs Nichols State.

RE: 2021 baseball preseason
CUSA team schedules are slowly being released. So far I've seen La Tech, MTSU, and Rice release full schedules.

As far as USM all that has been posted is from other team's releases. We host UConn for a weekend 3 game series while we go to Jacksonville St (Alabama) for a weekend 3 game series. Jacksonville St has hosted Missouri and Purdue the last 2 years so not exactly like we're playing at a FCS football school. And i feel like the Jacksonville St series is a home and home with them coming to us next year as I don't see USM/Berry playing a one and done series at their place. Other non conference games are a neutral site game vs Mississippi St, a road game at Alabama and a home game vs Nichols St. The Alabama, MSU and Nichols St games are all single midweek games.

It was announced earlier tonight on the BleedTechBlue radio show that, instead of Illinois, Tech will now open the season at LSU's round robin tournament. So Tech will open the season with:
Feb 19-21 @LSU, vs Air Force, vs Notre Dame (all in Baton Rouge)
Feb 23 @UL-Lafayette
