Haha, just the ole ball coach making fun of that one time when he told one of our fans to **** off.

Absolutely no one on this board should be happy for Tuberville. He screwed us.

Agree; I wish he would have lost to Sessions. But given that he didn't I wasn't going to root against him in the general just because of my dislike of him running this into the ground with no effort. Hopefully someone primary challenges him in 6 years.

AOC just giggled.

Tuberville is what's known as an "omnibus" candidate.

An Omnibus Candidate is someone famous whose personality or achievements give him a chance with voters across political lines (both regional lines and party lines). He campaigns on his achievements outside politics, rather than his positions on the issues.

The first omnibus candidate was Cincinnati's own William Henry Harrison. Most are generals, but others include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura, Al Franken, Bill Bradley, Sonny Bono, Jim Bunning, former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne (a 3-term House member) and Donald Trump.

I used to drive the "I hate all things Tuberville train", but recently I've started to become a little more neutral on his tenure here. For one reason, if we hired a mediocre coach that lasted 6 or 7 years we may never have had the chance to hire Fickell, so if anything, I'm grateful we hired him because it made everything line up so we could get Coach Fick.

He wasn't a bad guy, and in fact the nucleus of Fick's past two 11 win teams were his recruits which in the end he did not do badly. The reality is college football coaching has become a young man's game. Competition for players, assistants, and getting players to adopt your system is tougher than ever. Les Miles has the same predicament at Kansas now with more resources than we could provide to Tubbs. I'll be curious to watch his career. He certainly brings a lot of life experience, and those folks down there like him.

He got Trump's blessing in the primary. Once he got that he was home free. You have to be a pedophile to lose an Alabama senate seat as a republican...hell in a presidential election year I don't even think that would stop you.

Best take in this thread. You can get away with being old in college football if you keep winning, but the ride usually ends pretty quickly if the results slip to just OK or good. And it takes a certain personality to keep up with the grind necessary to win at this level (and having that personality isn't necessarily a compliment in real life and doesn't come without a cost.)

I certainly don't miss Tuberville here, but I wish him well.

I don't know that Trump was the deciding factor. These days you can be the father of a crackhead pedophile who doesn't report the latter part nor get him help with it and be famous for touching young girls inappropriately himself and then pick a running mate who slept her way to the top and still have a shot at being elected President.

RE: Congrats to Tubbs
Can we stay on topic and please continue discussing how terrible Tommy Tuberville is. The reward for tanking two multimillion dollar football programs due to gross negligence is not a spot in one of the most powerful offices in the world. I know most people have a cynical outlook on politicians which makes it easier to justify Tuberville's election, but I can't stress enough how obvious it is to everyone here that this is simply not what that guy deserves.

Wish him well, whatever. But wish it happens on a golf course somewhere where he isn't swindling people for money any more.

Take it where? I don't think he beats Sessions without Trump's blessing. Sessions had been a pretty popular guy in Alabama.

I wasn't trying to politicize it. It was an observation on Trump's importance in making him the nominee. Once he was the nominee he wasn't losing.

Funny you didn't say it that way the first time. It's pretty clear to me that you were trying to politicize it (as is your passive/aggressive co-hort who has since joined you in this thread), but I guess it's your call. I've got no problem with hard hitting politics I just think it belongs in a different thread.

I didn't? I said he was home free once he got Trump's blessing and made a joke about how easy it is for a republican to win in Alabama. Not sure what about that was politicized.

I mean it was a joking reference to how Jones was elected in the first place. Sorry if you took it otherwise.

Jones almost lost that 2017 election. Moore came in a little behind.

And now everyone's offended.

Two factors made his run here unsuccessful. First, he did not come up and have success outside of running and coaching in programs outside of Auburn and Miami where he had some pretty big advantages at the time both financially but also in his ability to nab both talent and asst. coaches. Babcock rolled the dice he could regain some magic on a smaller stage with less resources and in retrospect it's an extremely difficult task. Second, the ability to get good assistants he showed in my opinion as both Gran and Clinkscale were poached and have had success in the SEC. However, he came here in a time of a huge explosion of cash by P5 schools to pay those guys which we didn't have. A guy like TT can't have revolving assistants.

No, those jobs demand some level of skill. If not electable in the Queen City, then how about self-appointed inspector of snow-storms and rain-storms? No, that requires introspection, a sense of curiosity, literacy, the ability to grasp a pen or pencil, and some knowledge of grammar.

Depending on how things shake out in the next few days, Tuberville may prove to be a reliable rubber stamp and nothing more.

Tubs was elected to a position while in Cincinnati:
President of The American Coaches Football Association,
which brought attention to UC as spokesman for coaches.

Louisville would not have made it to the ACC without a Kentucky Senator
pushing them in.
Maybe Senator Tubs can assist in pushing the Bearcats into the Big12.

Have you ever needed help from a Senator or Congressman?
My family has.

A Bearcat Head Football has already had a very successful political career as a 47 year US Congressman representing a western New York district.
His name is Dan Reed and he was Bearcat Head Coach during the 1899 and 1900 seasons. He is the only Bearcat HC to coach against Notre Dame which happened in 1900. For one term he was he was Chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee in the House of Representatives in Washington DC. When he passed on in 1959, a congressman said that when he was speaking to the Committee, it like when he was addressing his Cincinnati football team with a pep talk.
The Daniel A. Reed Library of the University if New York, Palmyra honors Coach Reed and was designed by Master Architect I. M. Pei.

A Bearcat Head Basketball Coach, Socko Wiethe, also had a long career in politics as Chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, even though he had much to overcome: he is a Xavier graduate.
He was Bearcat football line coach under Coach Ray Nolting and became UC head basketball coach for the 47-48 season. His first year coaching the BB Bearcats was the first year the BB team was in a conference, the souped up MAC with teams like Butler. He won conference championships in each of his first five years in the MAC. No other Bearcat BB coach has been close:
Coach Jucker won his first three MVC titles.
Coach Huggins won his first two GMAC titles.

FWIW, who give a F*$K??! Lets also complain about Nancy Z. and anything else we can dredge up.

UC is a top 10 program with a legit outside shot at a playoff spot. Back to back 11 win seasons and it keeps getting better.

I don't care if he won or not, but good for him. I am just happy he is no longer the coach.

To understand James Alefantis social media posts, Podesta's emails, and Laura Silsby who got bailed out by Hillary, trying to smuggle 30 Haitian kids across the border into DR and then into the USA.
