Exclamation How Many Seniors Will Come Back For Another Year?
As the title suggests, how many guys do you all forsee opting in for a second senior year? Troy currently has very few seniors in the two deep, so almost everyone comes back, but in a year where other teams may see a lot of their seniors play another year it may not matter much if everyone is returning 18 starters. Curious to know how many seniors will move on, and if some of the better ones will opt in for a bonus season somewhere else as grad transfers.

If they've graduated what's the minimum amount of hours they have to be registered for to be eligible to play football? Is there a masters study hall program? What is the bulk rate for Ramen? Maybe we could swing it.

Louisiana only has 13 seniors. taking a early guess that 7-10 might come back. we might get 2-4 guys drafted to NFL and a couple could decide to just move on with there lives after school. I know we have a few 6th year seniors on the team now, that might not want to stay in college for a 7th year. Who ever wants to come back will be given the chance.

May also depend one each guy's chances of getting drafted or signing as a free agent.

If a player thinks he has a better chance of getting drafted by staying one more season and improving skills/stats, then why not stay?

Well I’d be ok with Ragas coming back. Mitchell gets drafted. Levi Lewis moves on.

I expect Ragas to be on a lot of teams draft board. we will be ok even with both of those guys getting drafted. the RB room is not a concern at all. Who knows what Levi will decide to do yet.

App has 14 seniors that start or get 40% of the reps, 9 on offense. Will be interesting to see, most I imagine will graduate and be ready to start life, especially if they go out winners.

I'd love to see Wesley Kennedy and JD King come back. Same for Raymond Johnson.

I'm ready for a new QB though.

Funny to hear ULL and GS ready to get rid of a couple of solid QBs.

Backup QB is always a popular guy though.

Shai peaked his sophomore year and has not shown any improvement even with better coaching, he is just above average and barely completes half his passes. That worked for the flex bone but not now. We sniff a 65-70% completion rate and don't miss or underthrow deep constantly we are probably not wanting staff changes and not a mid-pack Belt team. I dont know if we have anyone better at this point though and the way recruiting has gone the last three years I don think it is going to matter too much.

However, losing most of our top WRs concerns me. Hopefully, we can sign some JCs.

If you were to read many of the posters on our board, you would think Shai was a terrible QB and Tomlin hung the moon.

Said it before, you might not like the results, but Werts always leaves everything on the field

Werts plays his heart out vs App. Probably because App would only offer him at DB/WR.

Maybe I’ve not seen him have bad games.

If we have Zac Thomas and y’all have Levi Lewis the last 3 meetings who wins the majority?

Your backup isn’t a Zac Thomas either.

It isn't that Shai is not a good qb. He is. He can make plays with his feet, but his accuracy on passing has gotten worse, especially on his deep balls. His decision making on option plays has always been iffy.
He was a step back from Kevin Ellison. Both had the ability to make something out of nothing, but KE was way more consistent on making good reads, and making the right decision with pitches.

Do I think Justin Tomlin is the answer? No clue. But from what I've seen watching film, we have a lot of young guys waiting that seem like they could have the tools to be something good. And since we likely have a new OC next season, I'd rather go ahead and get a new QB in with the new OC and start fresh.

Shai's been good, and he helped us get our bowl win over EMU, but it is time to move on.

Nobody is saying he is not a tough kid or is bad it just nothing has improved since his sophomore year, especially with passing. He is ok, just time to move on we can't live in the 50% or less completion and miss wide open deep recievers range anymore.

I think that has as much to do with blocking (and our lack thereof) as it has to do with Shai.
