Who's better, Coastal or Marshall? AP and Coaches don't agree.

You should go ask the Marshall board. You’ll have a great discussion there.
I’m not sure Coastal has many fans.

A JMU catch phrase is "open dialogue" but we leave out the part about open only uf you agree with the dialogue offered from the admin and the dialogue cannot include conference realignment.

The JMU mob (DukeDawg, Nation, and all the accountants) has told us persistently that we need a conference affiliation to step up to D1 football.
FBS Dave has the independent mindset to ask why?
He is making some powerful arguments.
I want to personally thank FBS Dave.

If neither Marshall or Coastal get a NY6 bowl (assuming Cincy wins out) then I hope we play each other in a bowl game. I would love to see a bowl game where both of us are undefeated and ranked around 15th.

Is the board populated by administration shills? Or fans that are drunk in stagnation Kool-Aid?
I’d guess a poll of fans would vote:
75% FBS Indy
15% FBS G5
10% stay FCS and keep monitoring.
The board population here seems to be more pessimistic than I’d guess.

We have lost a bunch of posters over the years thanks to what BSKB just expressed. Posting here is supposed to be a fun endeavor but the boards get taken over at times by people who like to criticize. The sad part is these posters are ill informed yet passionate in their position. This is a dangerous combination. They also can’t be happy with stating their position then moving on. They continue to barrage us all with the same posts over and over. It seems they feel we posters are decision makers. We are not. We are just run of the mill fans. The big donors don’t read these boards. That is the audience these “pioneers” should be seeking out rather than continuing to dominate these boards with the same repetitive message.

This x 1000.
Ideas and agendas on here get bludgeoned to death, smashing the same topic, over & over into hundreds of small pieces. This is then followed by an irrepressible desire to have the last word. And just when you think it couldn't get beaten to death anymore, those same small pieces get ground up into a fine powder.
As far as the posters being ill informed, I wouldn't put as much stock in that. Not that the average poster is well informed. I think most are though, in comparison to the average fan. My point is those that "think" they are very well informed (above & beyond the posters here), are not nearly as "in the loop" as they think they are. Can't tell you how many large donors and "insiders" have been 180 degrees wrong on some things over the last 20 years.

Good point on the insiders being informed. I know I have thought I have had inside knowledge only to find out I did not. I was embarrassed so I learned that just because someone in athletics shares something, don’t believe it until it hits the papers.

Agreed. Negativity fostered by about 5 posters who won't engage in discussion have been killing it for the rest of the folks who enjoy talking shop about JMU Athletics.

I'm not sure who the "anti-JMU" posters are. I haven't seen them. I have, however, seen a lot of pro-JMU posters advocating their particular brand of path to the future for JMU.
More than anything, it seems that certain posters on this board want to label those who disagree with them as "anti-JMU." OK.

You have to admit where it becomes negative and anti JMU is when everything that continues on a path that isn’t the one that you want is met with skepticism or knit picking. Hoops season is about to start and I already know certain fans hopes for a better schedule, a bigger more expensive coach etc will permeate every post. I’m prepared that they will be perpetually underwhelmed unless the team goes undefeated and shoots the moon.
Same could be said for football there are fans that probably won’t enjoy Spring they will be so dug in on trying to tell us they told ya so about our opponents, our division our media outlets, even when the Dukes win there will be qualifiers about the lack of competition how much we spend etc.
By the way I understand this point of view and agree with most of it. I want JMU to be FBS and big time today as well. I just try to enjoy the Dukes and not let those aspirations or hopes take away from it because there is a lot to enjoy with our athletics program overall. I’m looking forward to hoops and football even if we don’t have Rick Pitino as a head coach or aren’t an independent FBS school who’s ranked.

I don’t believe you are seen as anti JMU. You obviously care about it’s success.
Your message beats a dead horse. Why are you not able to move on from it? What do you need to hear from the rest of us so you can do so? We understand your message loud and clear. You strongly feel JMU should move to Indy is football and not wait for the right conference affiliation.

Point taken, and you are right, my love for JMU runs deep, as, without question, does yours.
You are also right that I want very much for JMU to become an FBS football team. I see absolutely no future in FCS. I only want FBS indy because we can't monitor the situation until many of us are dead and gone. What a disservice! And, now after studying the indy route and comparing it to any conference affiliation, I find indy far superior to conference membership.
But, don't take my word for it, just ask any Liberty fan you happen to run into. They are easy to identify by the big smiles on their faces.
Yes, it's a dead horse, in more ways than one, and frankly, I get as tired of talking about it as anyone else, but any sales and marketing pro will tell you that repetition works.
If I sound bitter, it's only because I am. I find the inaction and lack of communication inexcusable.

Yep - When it's constant, it can be detrimental to support for JMU. I get it.
I stay away at times as well for the same reason. It gets old.
When our fans team with trolls, that is not usually a good thing.
Things may not be exactly how everyone wants them, that would be impossible, but dang - overall things are pretty good at JMU, even if we think they could be better.
Trying being a Towson fan if you think things are so bad at JMU.
