Reposting. Think you overlooked my question.

For some unknown reason I want to go to an Army home game.

As do I! Historic & beautiful setting? Sounds awesome.

Really?

"Some of our posters," including me, simply want to see our alma mater play our peers and get away from 50-point, blowout wins against the likes of STFU.

How you get from that clear goal all the way to us wanting "JMU to handle athletics like a professional sports team" is beyond me.

When you are CAA without a plan forward a Marshall might look like a pro sports program.

Even if we're FBS, we're still probably going to play STFU and similar teams at the beginning of the season, so I guess you're just hoping STFU is a closer game. 03-lmfao

PS, I am pro FBS, especially Indy, just having a good time 04-cheers

Yeah, historic is a big part of it. Beautiful setting. Honor of dedicated young men serving. Uniqueness of an Indy service academy.

I’ve also never seen any posters claiming JMU should be handled like a pro sports team.
Insinuating that somehow JMU is more interested in academics than most other universities is silly. If we were an IVY league school, then maybe that argument holds water. There are so many examples of large state universities that prioritize academics (obviously) and also they get more for their athletic money than JMU does.

Check out our national athletic spending peers.
60 Memphis AAC $55,815,109
61 South Florida AAC $55,045,769
62 San Diego State Mt. West $54,731,404
63 James Madison CAA $52,704,654
64 Nevada-Las Vegas Mt. West. $50,784,275
65 Boise State Mt. West $50,599,483
66 Fresno State Mt. West $49,772,999

We shouldn’t point to an Olympic sport like Golf and say our programs are fully funded and are performing better than ever! That is a misplacement of priority.
And this is coming from someone who loves golf.
The $1.1 million spends on golf programs annually is not beneficial to the greater cause. As an example much of that money could be reallocated to revenue generating basketball and FBS football (not FCS football because that is a money loser).

4 years ago Bourne said, "The viability of the FCS model is something we are looking at now. How long will that model continue to be viable for JMU and other FCS schools?" His words, not mine.

While I suspect you may be right, I certainly hope not. You want to play this level of competition? Swap STFU for home and homes with ODU, Liberty, App, and Marshall.

Have you seen STFU's awesome stadium? If it weren't for the band, there wouldn't be anyone at this game. I guess about 50 fans are packing the stands. It must be free rosary day....

No need to disparage Saint Francis. It's a fine school. They are not known for their athletics programs, and seem like a fitting member of the NEC.

I've been to West Point a bunch of times, been to 3 football games, played some hockey games there in college too. But the best reason to visit is for the Sunday brunch at the Thayer, first class everything, just a top notch experience. If you go there, plan on attending it.

Exactly! STFU and the Ticks are much closer to being peers than JMU and STFU.

From once being a bowl-winning FBS (1968 Tangerine Bowl - the mightly Ticks appeared in the Tangerine Bowl again 1n 1971, but lost to Toledo) and FCS national champion (2008), RU has been working hard to drive its football product into the ground. We can certainly follow the Ticks' lead, or we can get the hell out of FCS and give our hungry fans what they want - big boy football.

4 years ago the verdict on FCS was already clear. What is more clear today is the direct path to FBS Indy, as blazed by Liberty.

Over one half (60%) of our largest donors refuse to give another dime to JMU until there is leadership change.

Does anyone think status quo is the best path forward for us?

Nope. We've already debunked this false claim.

IIRC, the claim was made by a former Board member or something. Unless I missed something, the claim has neither been supported by documented quotes/ statements, nor has it been debunked. It's just out there in the wind. Seems like it would be good follow up material for a dogged reporter.

I am going to take a break from JMU football for a while, at least until JMU plays peer programs (by peers I mean g5 programs).

As Nation said recently, the admin will never change and I can't say their names without my blood pressure increasing.

Maybe JMU basketball can become watchable again and Byington won't have to schedule a large state university's mbb schedule as if it's irrelevant in it's own state.

It's not accurate. Dukeman is doing Dukeman things and grabbing for statistics he read in an opinion piece. Tickle is among a few conservatives named in a Breeze article who are expressing their dissatisfaction that JMU is not fully open, and have taken to social media to cancel Alger because he seems to lean left. Since the opinion article has come out, JMU has secured two 8-figure gifts. Financial support for JMU is not drying up like Dukeman thinks it is. JMU's support base is broader than folks like Tickle. I'm very appreciative for their support. But to conclude that major donors are fleeing is unfounded.
