Diehard Eagles fan here, hoping for a huge night by Ben but a W for Philly. So far it’s a battle of futility, both QBs have held on to the ball too long and misfired a few times as well as eaten a sack and coughed the ball up.

Yeah, just two teams very beaten up. Glad Ben is getting a shot.

If Ben had Riley Stapleton in a Cowboy uniform tonight it would be 21 - 7 Cowboys.

I get trying to take the pressure off Ben by mixing it up a bit, but this playcalling has been beyond ridiculous. Instead of slowing working him into the game with some conventional runs and passes, they’re taking him out of the game and not giving him a chance to get in the flow. It’s almost as if they were forced to go to QB3, a WR also the emergency QB, mid-game due to injuries and are just running trick play after trick hoping to get to the final whistle.

This one is tough to watch. Shame, Ben has been off, but also had a few catchable balls dropped, at the same time lucky he didn’t have any picks yet.

The Nooch is obviously being handled with kid gloves which tells you the coaching staff doesn’t have any faith in him based on what they have seen in last week’s game and in practice. 5 of his 7 completions have been at or behind the line of scrimmage. He almost executed the game plan to perfection, but fumbled in The red zone which kept it a nip and tuck game.

He has had some good fortune with 3 of his throws looking like INT’s that he got away with.
Nothing surprising so far. I suspect McCarthy let’s him run in the second half and that is the X factor. Dalton should be back next week and the Cowboys could steal a win tonight with a 3rd string QB. If he gets hurt On a run, he is expendable like most NFL players. They need a win.

He is a rookie 7th rounder starting his first game. What coaching staff would have faith in any rookie 7th rounder playing his first game especially behind a shaky offensive line? It’s no reflection on Ben.

Some drops and near misses. He needs to make a play for Dallas to win

I agree. I think he needs to make it with his legs.

What he needs to do is get rid of the ball sooner and quit with that sidearm he’s been using all night. And the 3rd quarter playbook is how they should’ve operated earlier in the game. They should’ve started him out with some Elliot runs and some dink and dunk passing to get in a flow instead of all of those trick plays.

DiNucci QBR = 64.6
Wentz QBR = 61.2

JMU > NDSU confirmed

I have no objection to the sidearm. It has been very effective throughout Nooch's career.

DiNucci was what I expected and hoped for (in this game). Competent, but not good. He showed some flashes, but I think the wind played into both QB's issues on passes longer than 12 yards.

Overall I think he really didn't play that well at all. Didnt have his cockiness that was talked about all week. He played more like 2018 Ben as opposed to 2019 Ben. Playcalling was sub par at best, especially the 2nd half drive that was a steady diet of zeke runs moving right down the field until they try another double reverse. Needed more RPOs and an O-line that doesnt suck. Ben also needs to have much better pocket presence.

I also didnt hear anyone mention have there was no preseason games so last night was the first NFL game speed that Ben saw. Definitely played a factor

He's a rookie 7th round pick with NO training camp and NO offensive line. Yes, he made mistakes but I don't think he was all that bad.

Just echoing everyone else. He played as expected, but not as hoped. He had some decent passes, but also had some misses (looked like he was overshooting to compensate for the wind) and some ill-advised passes that he was lucky to not have picked off. He did get a few passes to the receiver that were catchable or would've been solid if the receiver had stayed in, but that unfortunately didn't happen. His best run got called back on a bogus holding. Had that not gotten called back I think they may have stuck with the RPO a bit more - which would have been MUCH better than what they were doing. Whether or not he starts again, his main practice drill should be having a free blitzer that gives him 2 seconds to get it out. He just sat in the pocket all night like he was back at JMU last year with an all-star O-line and got clobbered. His internal clock needs to have that arm moving after a couple seconds. If it weren't for the (questionable) scoop and score, he would have had a chance at the end of the game. Anyway, a decent game given the circumstances and hopefully he'll continue to get some reps and in-game situations because I think he could make a solid backup with some experience.

Nice to see at least a few stories saying that Ben was still better than Wentz.

Ben played fine. He played as was expected. While he did have a couple drops, he had a handful that could of/should of been picked as mentioned by the broadcasters. I think he did as well as you could of expected. He gave them a chance to win.

I don't think anyone is thinking Ben will start next week if Andy cleared. I don't think he embarrassed himself.

If I had to rate Wentz versus Ben - I'd give Wentz the slight edge last night which could be scene as props to Ben, but really Wentz just played REAL bad. This year he's looked pretty bad.

Ben played decent last night considering. Could he be the backup next year if Andy is not around? Maybe.

I think that Ben got better as the game unfolded in terms of reading the defense...even Chris Collinsworth said as much. It was incredibly windy and he had never played in an NFL game really until subbing in for Dalton last week. No real training camp and off season minis. He needs to get a whole lot better. Just shows you the speed and complexity of the NFL game for a QB. Let's hope he learns from it and gets better. Shows the value of preseason games to a QB at least. ODU receiver on Philly (Fulgram?) is really starting to come on for them and he walked on in college. Nice story.

3 CAA QBs in the NFL still - Lauletta (with Cleveland), Flacco (with NY?) and DiNucci

RE: 2 1/2 hours to Nooch's first NFL start. May there be many more. Cowboys-Eagles in-gam
A few thoughts in no particular odor...

1. I actually thought they did a disservice to Ben coming out with the gimmicky offensive stuff. I would've thought they'd get some early easy throws (like quick outs) to build some confidence for Ben instead of flanking him out, running wildcat stuff, etc. It looked like Dallas was playing out of desperation offensively right from the first series. I think their approach should've been give it to Zeke, low risk passes for Ben, roll Ben out where he can use his legs, and definitely definitely definitely some screen passes to Elliott. Difficult for Ben to build any rhythm whatsoever when he's being flanked out as a decoy WR.

2. As I stated in the Pro Dukes thread, Ben was/is trying out for 32 clubs. Hopefully, even if he doesn't stick with Dallas (and I think he very well may) that there is enough respect around the league about McCarthy regarding he has seen enough in Ben scouting college film to draft him to start with and then in practices and so forth to start him. I really hope Ben gets more chances as I think he'll get better moving forward just from experience, though D's O-Line remains an issue. They need to give him a chance and not be a circus sideshow like they were for much of the 1st half last night with gimmicky desperation football.

3. I was impressed with the research NBC had done and presented during the broadcast regarding Ben's ties to McCarthy's brother being his hoops coach way back when and how HC McCarthy ran into Ben at Frisco (national title game). Chris Collinsworth's voice is like fingernails down a chalkboard to me, but otherwise he is a knowledgeable analyst and usually does a good job - I think he did last night breaking down Ben.
