The What if game:

What if Georgia Southern had not collapsed at the end of their 2016 game with Arkansas State and had gone on to win. Would both schools be in the same spots now?

This thread has turned into a bunch of classic " prisoner of the moment" opinions. There is still a lot of football to be played. in the East a lot of different things can happen to change who will play for the title. Louisiana will be fine also. just hold on to your seats, its going to be a fun belt finish.

it is odd considering it wasn't that long ago they had the exact opposite problem: couldn't win anything OOC but played like Alabama when it came to SBC games.

I don’t see that happening, after Tuesday the virus won’t be as serious. We’ll protect the elderly and vulnerable while moving on with sports.

I remember 3 years ago when South was a double digit favorite and came to Statesboro and lost 52-0. I knew right then Joey Jones was toast and had probably already mailed it in before the game.

I got that kind of vibe with the Ark State against Troy.

I'm predicting for next year GS and South have a new OC, Georgia State has a new DC, and Ark State and Coastal have a new head coach. It'll be odd for maybe the strongest Sun Belt ever to have so many coaching changes.

I cant see Coastal getting a new coach for next year. open spots may be few compared to years past. and Coastal runs a different style. His time will come next year likely wont be it.

RE: Ark St
Typically Sun Belt teams get a run of one to maybe five years.

UNT posted 4 titles and collapsed. Troy had a 5 year run of winning or being in the hunt and collapsed. Cajuns had a 4 year run of winning and fell apart.

App is on a six year run. AState had a 9 year run that is falling apart. AState has not had three four TD or worse losses in conference at least since 1974 because so far none of us have looked any further back. It may have never happened before.

My armchair MD degree makes me think he needs assistance with depression and grief but the fact remains AState spent a lot of money on a new press box and premium seating, new end zone club seats, indoor practice facility, and new locker room, clubhouse, offices, meeting rooms and training rooms that have to be paid for. The good news is AState had actually paid ahead on the debt so had room to cut the payments with Covid-19 and was able to refinance at a lower interest rate to save even more going forward. The problem is premium seating is funding this and the 7 year pledges expire after next season.

Blake is cheap to fire. He’s owed $500,000 a year for the remainder of the contract with only $200,000 of that each year guaranteed. The remainder is subject to offset from any other earnings. Payments are due monthly and because of how the terms are set it’s possible Anderson might opt to take a single lump sum to walk.

My expectation is absent some crazy run to end the season that he will be done.

RE: Ark St
I will say App has taken a half step back due to Darryngton Evans declaring early for the draft and Corey Sutton opting out this year, so our 2 best explosive offensive weapons are missing but we are still a team made up of alot of upper classmen. On the coaching side we seem to be good, maybe not as clever as last year but we still have a lot of football left, We'll see what CCU and ULL gives us to clarify if we have regressed or not.

I still think the Big 10 will cancel because they designed their season to not be played, the rest of us will keep going.

Tell that to the Republican Governor of Arkansas who announced we had the most single day deaths yet and a record number of positives for a weekend.

Martial Law is the most overhyped under used phrase in American History. It would take pure chaos and anarchy for America to hit that point.

Agreed. First UL needs to beat (finally) App then if App beats CC and I think they will, I like the odds of UL taking it all at Cajun Field. I also think a rematch with CC for the CCG would go our way....the last game was so close.
Bottom line GEAUX Cajuns

If Coastal beats App the championship game will be at Coastal, and right now I think that is the most likely scenario. But yours is still a possibility as well.

We all wish he had won more too. It's plain to see that he was not the right hire for us. Many of us saw it in 2016, but Anderson had enough success, that enough of the fan base was still behind him. Through subsequent seasons, more and more were starting to see it too, and wanting a change. But, with the tragic news of his wife's cancer return, the pitchforks were laid down, as we knew what was likely in store, and we knew somethings were more important than football. Anderson has a provision in his contract that he gets an automatic contract extension if he gets 8 FBS wins in a season. He failed to do that in 2017 & 2018. It was still possible in 2019, but the USA loss prevented that. 2020 was the last season on his contract since it did not automatically extend, and we were fine with just letting that run out. Our AD has shown an inability to fire under-performing coaches, and just let their contract run out and not renew. However, in the off season, Anderson was awarded a 3-year contract extension. I would have been fine with a 1-year extension, so as not to hurt recruiting with lame duck season, but many were not pleased with the 3-year extension. So here we are, in a nose dive, and nobody believes that Anderson can pull out of it. There is a large amount of people not renewing their season tickets, and it will just get worse unless we make a change.
