And now running in the NCAA finals. What an impressive young lady. She hasn't gotten remotely the publicity as some of the best UT runners in recent years (Fisher, Kertesz, Noe, Simiuc to name a few.) The article also seems to indicate she has another year of eligibility, if she wants it.

04-jawdrop Impressive athlete, student and person. And potentially another Rocket All-American!

Petronela Simiuc is joining Sherman at nationals. She finished 4th in her heat, and 10th overall in the 1500!

Stephanie Sherman also ran in the 5K, and came in 11th in her heat, and 22nd overall. Both finishes for her were way above her seeding.

In the steeple, Semra Karaslan finished 8th in her heat, and 24th overall. Freshman Emily Vining came in 14th in her heat and 43rd overall.

This article from the UT site indicates that Simiuc has been injured. Reportedly she could barely run at all in the week leading up to her runs, and yet still qualified for the finals.

Good luck to Petronela and Stephanie in Eugene, June 9-12.

In today's NCAA championships, Stephanie Sherman did it again, shaving more than 40 seconds off her personal best to finish 16th in the 10K in a time of 33:25:31, which is good enough for 2nd team All-American!

And, if I am reading the UT record book correctly, that is also a school record, besting Emma Kertesz' 33:28:58 from back in 2012. And to top it off, she beat MAC champion Ashley Tutt from NIU by 50 seconds!

Petronela Simiuc didn't have quite as good a day, finishing 8th in her heat, and 20th overall in the 1500. I imagine her injury really hampered her today.
