Happens every year here, to every staff. We get early commits from under the radar guys, and then they leverage that and their senior seasons into P5 offers.

I'm not sold on the HC yet, but this is not an indictment.

Does the student have the option or does the student/program agree collectively?

I would think collectively since all schollys are year to year.

I listened to Silverfield on Greg and Eli’s show last week. Eli asked him about the seniors coming back. Silverfield sounded frustrated and said maybe 3 or 4. He said honestly we have some guys that need to move on. He seemed frustrated by the whole transfer, opt out, extra year of eligibility roster stuff. He said guys who have opted out are on scholarship through second semester but he has no contact/control. If they do something stupid it reflects poorly on him and the program.

Obviously, quick way to beef up weaker positions or low depth is hit the transfer portal HARD and bring in the kids for 1 year!!

College football will mirror society from now on. In the good old days, you told kids to do things the right way or they were kicked off the team. They did it. Try doing that today. Off to play video games, hit FB or smoke weed. You are lucky of they go play soccer.

It will be a free for all. Brutal.

Memphis has had a RB who opted out because of Covid - a bit late but opted out
Memphis had a receiver "opt" out...after he decided not to follow team rules and was in the dog house in a big way
To a player regarding players who have opted out for Memphis, they all were seeing less playing time, beat out and simply did not like what the future holds.

As mentioned above the "free year" has allowed any player for any reason to remain safe at school on scholarship without having to be a part of a team. It's more of a holding pattern. It's happening all over the country.

Coaches are all assuming there will be a tremendous amount of players wanting to transfer from all universities but without places to land. There are only so many scholarships at lower levels.

To date, I am not aware of any player transfer that has resulted in that player going to a higher profile conference or team since Tommy West kicked off the DE who went to Miss State after he threw his helmet down at a scrimmage.

Other players could leave that could change this but top date it is what it is this year.

BTW coaches know players are playing like they are in meaningless bowl games, they can't do anything about it. What are they going to do, make them run laps?

I did a quick check on our recruits and there wasn't much to report. As you said, we haven't had anyone transfer out that has become a star somewhere else. It is a who's who of nothing. Brady Davis, David Moore, Jamarius Henderson and Jarvis Cooper didn't do much after they left.

As far as recruits go, Taylor is at UAB, Nick Robinson, Quindon Lewis is barely playing at Abilene Christian, Smothers and Nick Robinson don't seem to be doing anything.

I would think that the same reasoning that applies to upper echelon P5 programs having the chance to get great transfers come in; we should be able to also benefit from that as arguably the top non P5 program in the country.
