Who's Your HC Choice?
Doesn't mean we could get any other them (but maybe all of them). But who would you want of these guys?

RE: Who's Your HC Choice?
I’d be a fan of Fedora. He knows what it takes to win and I know he can recruit.

RE: Who's Your HC Choice?
Fedora knows how to win here, but I’m just not sure what he’s working toward at this point in his career and therefore how motivated he’d be.

I have no doubt Freeze would kick ass here, and he’s trying to work his way back up the ladder, so he’s motivated. Does he even need us as stepping stone with what he’s doing at Liberty, though? He may be headed straight back to a P5 HC gig as it is.

Monken has aspects of both. We know he can win here, but if he were to come here, is it his last job or is he chasing the next big gig. If he is chasing it, does he even need the stop-over at this point?

Any coordinator without HC experience is a risk, but who’ll be good and who won’t isn’t that hard a code to crack.

Just give me someone with some name value and a successful track record on the offensive side of FBS and I’ll be happy.

I think y’all are way too excited for a guy that left us a week before signing day. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the appeal of Monken, but I think he burnt too many bridges for that to ever be a possibility again.

And from a recruiting standpoint, Fedora was light years better.

Not that my opinion matters at all, but no bridge burnt with me. In fact, I would have thought he was an idiot if he didn’t take that opportunity when it came to him. Same way I’d feel about anyone that gets a better opportunity.

Yeah, no doubt. You get a job offer that triples your salary, you take it. Timing of it is irrelevant.

RE: Who's Your HC Choice?
Just curious if the Fedora/Monken scenario being discussed here has ever occurred somewhere else. The head coach of a G-5 school gets his dreamed of promotion to a Power 5 team (or NFL offensive coordinator with Monken). Then the coach is either fired or leaves for any other reason. And then that coach returns to the SAME G-5 school he coached at before. I can't remember that ever happening, but maybe someone else does.

I think Fedora and Monken would still like a head coaching job somewhere, but USM falls under the category of "been there, done that." Fedora isn't going to get a high rated Power 5 job, but is probably hoping that a Colorado, Kansas, Ole Miss, or Maryland type position would take a chance on him. As for Monken, I still remember him publicly declaring how put off he was at the lack of fan support at USM. On that alone, it's hard to imagine him wanting to come back here.

RE: Who's Your HC Choice?
Monken is not coming back. He is the OC at Georgia and will will be a HC at a major program within a year or two.

Fedora, is a little different. He took a higher job at a basketball school and he was successful the first few years. Then the sanctions kick in, which he had nothing to do with, and all the sudden he gets fired... I don't understand or agree with that, but nobody asked me.. Fedora will be an HC again, I'm not sure if it will be at USM.

All I know is that Fedora intends to interview, if he hasn’t already.

Just off the top of my head I can think of 3. I am sure there are others.

Yeah, he’s definitely on the list. He moved on the opening quicker than a fly on a fresh pile of poo.

Not a G5 but Mack Brown returned to North Carolina (was there 1988-1997).

RE: Who's Your HC Choice?
Thanks for the input everyone. I was unaware of any coach ever having done that, so wasn't sure of how realistic it was. Knowing that the precedent has been set by others definitely makes the possibility of Fedora coming back more real. EagNBran, thanks also for the news that Fedora intends to interview as I was out of the loop on that one. I thought he was someone that some fans were just "hoping" would come back.

I don't mind a wide open search, but would be very happy with Fedora. One good thing is that he now has lots of experience under his belt that he didn't when he first arrived here. Great at recruiting and energizing a team. I also liked that he went out of his way to recruit quality JC players- several of whom were big contributors during 2011.

3 years of Bra_for_ under Fedora and a trip to the Hawaii Bowl against Nevada instead of Dallas against Penn State to close it out, but other than that...

That was the AD's job to handle. He allowed that.

Exactly. I don’t blame Fedora for wanting to coach the bowl game, which he wouldn’t have been able to if we’d played in the other game 2-3 weeks later. Hell, if the Liberty Bowl & SEC don’t screw us over to begin with, there’s not even a decision to be made by anybody.

And again, if we don’t completely f*** up the next hire, the whole thing’s a footnote instead of the turning point everybody makes it out to be. Nobody gives a crap which bowl we played in the year before if Monken wins another 9–10 games in 2012.

RE: Who's Your HC Choice?
He was in on it with the AD who bet we'd lose to Houston, and signed up for a junket vacation before the game was even played. This move was so egregious it cost the AD his job. We could've whipped PENN STATE instead of them strapping on grass skirts and drinking fruity drinks for a meaningless game nobody could attend.

And besides that he hired and kept a very bad DC for 3 years.

Whatever retread we get, and I'm prepared to be underwhelmed, will have to dig out of a hole as deep as EJ's and it won't even matter against who we now play.

Tasty job, that I can tell you.

Now if Lamont possessed enough character to fly out there and apologize for impugning an innocent man, maybe we could convince Coach Art Briles.
