RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
WBB is back in action today at 4 PM as they host Mercer (5-3). This final non-conference tune-up will be the start of a 3-game homestand for the Seahawks, who also host Drexel on Saturday and Sunday.

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
2 starters are inactive today for the Hawks: PG Mary McMillan and SG Za’Nautica Downs.

Without a true PG it’ll be a committee effort there. McMillan and Downs are also our top 2 three-point threats as well.

Mercer already looked like they’d be the better team on paper and this game just got even tougher.

Lady Hawks are not passing the ball and or cut and moving either. Not good thus far at all.

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
Good halftime adjustments by Coach Barefoot, as we’ve attacked the rim more. 2 of their top 3 scorers now have 4 fouls apiece.

However, a buzzer beater 3 at the end of the 3rd put the Bears up 58-41 entering the 4th.

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
Mercer is just the more aggressive and disciplined team today. Which is a deadly combo. It would have been tough to keep it close even at full strength.

64-41 Mercer, 8:02 left in the game.

WBB hosts Drexel today at 1 and tomorrow at 1, mirroring the men’s schedule.

A split would be great but I’m not expecting it. Drexel is typically in the top 3 of the league just about every season.

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
No McMillan again today, leaving “point-forward” Dazia Powell likely handling primary ball handling duties today for the Hawks.

On the positive front, starting SG Za’Nautic Downs is back healthy. We need her floor-stretching abilities.

Downs is confirmed to be active but will not start today.

The Seahawks have 10 active players today and presumably for tomorrow as well.

Hawks down 49-43 entering the 4th quarter. Obusek and Z Downs have 12 points apiece.

3 Drexel starters have 3 fouls apiece.

61-51 Drexel, 4:56 remaining.

Tons of foul calls in this one. Seahawks have been disorganized much of the way, partly due to a lack of a true PG. Camille Downs, not Powell, has been the primary PG today, with Webster getting work there as well.

3 freshmen starting today for the Hawks: Sallie Vick at point guard (first start), Evan Miller at SG, and as usual Taylor Webster at PF.

9 players active today as F Sunshine McCrae is a scratch. Camille and Za’Nautica Downs will both come off the bench.

Hawks down 30-21 at the break. A lot of selfish, ugly basketball in this one on our side of things, unfortunately.

61-34 final.

That’s 4 straight losses for the Hawks. It doesn’t get any easier as a road trip to JMU is next on the schedule.

You're getting the big guns out of the way early on. There's nowhere but up after that, right?

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
While WBB's games @ JMU this weekend are still on the schedule, the Jan 16-17 home games with Towson have already been postponed per today's announcement. Meaning there will be, potentially, no men's or women's games in Trask over the next 2 weeks:

Seahawks' Series With Towson Postponed

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's women's basketball games with Colonial Athletic Association opponent Towson, scheduled for next weekend (Jan. 16-17) at Trask Coliseum, have been postponed as a result of a positive COVID-19 test result within the Tigers' program.

UNCW and Towson administrators and coaches will work with CAA officials to possibly reschedule the games in the future.

The Seahawks, 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the CAA, make their first conference road trip of the season this weekend when they visit James Madison for a pair of games at the new Atlantic Union Bank Center.

RE: 2020-21 Women's Basketball thread
WBB back in action this weekend against JMU, with new game times. Saturday and Sunday's road tilts will both be played at Noon.

The Seahawks haven't won a game @ JMU since 2008. Needless to say we'll be hard-pressed to end that drought given our play of late. A sweep in Harrisonburg would mean 6 straight losses and an 0-4 start in CAA play.
