Students are only paying $500 per semester, so the athletic department can easily increase their scholarships across the board with just room and board. I know a few athletes who've gone there on what ends up like a full scholarship, when all WCU is offering is a meal plan and help with dorms.

Not a bad deal. Good for them

Overall this isn’t a great sign for the schools future. It’s not sustainable.

Is the state subsidizing the difference?

Yep. Same deal at UNC Pembroke and Elizabeth City State

Did they sellout yesterday?

If a group of 3 were to walkup today would they be likely to get tickets?

I heard they were near capacity. You can always bring chairs and sit at homerun hill.

Sorry, but that’s incorrect. HR hill is considered inside the stadium and requires a ticket.

2-run bomb for Suggs makes it 6-1 Hawks in the 3rd!

Can’t ask for much better than a 5-1 start to the season.

Cincinnati comes to town for a 4-game series next weekend.

Solid Series win. Will be interesting to see if either of the freshman pull away for the Sunday job. While both showed bright spots neither really had a great outing either.

RE: Baseball: Western Carolina series
We have 2 good guys there and another freshman closed it yesterday. This is a good sign. Eventually the Hawks will need to sure up their southpaws to really get there. I haven’t been all over it yet but it doesn’t look like they are starting any of them. Do they have a mid week option or middle relief other than Benton? He is good but depth is preferable.

Has anyone else had a problem watching the games on SDN? I couldn’t get mine to play on my phone yesterday which is a bummer.

This weekend will be interesting for sure. With a 4-game series on tap, both should get starts after Roupp and Gesell.

RE: Baseball: Western Carolina series
Elon (3-4) took 2 out of 3 from VCU this weekend. All 3 contests were 1-run games.

Hofstra is off to a 3-1 start, with one win over Seton Hall and 2 against La Salle. They have a doubleheader with La Salle today that is already underway.

The rest of the CAA results have pretty much been all bad news. Charleston is 2-5 after getting swept by South Carolina Upstate (6-0). NU is 1-2. W&M and JMU are both 0-3. Towson is 1-6. And Delaware hasn't played yet.

RE: Baseball: Western Carolina series
Another weekend of play. Another Rookie of the Week. Coming off last week where Jac Croom received the honor, congrats to New Hanover HS product Hunter Hodges on being named this week's CAA ROW!

Hodges Grabs CAA Rookie Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman Hunter Hodges was named Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association after helping the Seahawks to a series win over Western Carolina.

Over the course of two appearances, Hodges surrendered just one hit over 5.1 innings out of the bullpen. He walked two and struck out six. His career-long outing of 3.2 innings on Sunday clinched the series win.

Hodges has made three outings this season totaling 5.2 innings. He's struck out seven and is averaging 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
