Last I checked jurisprudence there is no 1st Amendment right to buy a bottle of bourbon or gas up your car (a gas pump handle is probably filthier than the floor of a public bathroom in the best of times, but I digress). There are however those pesky delineated rights of free exercise of religion and rights of assembly that certain governors selectively trample on.

Amen brother! Arbitrary and capracious rules be damned. Justice Gorsuch summed it up...

Quote:Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch took direct aim at Roberts' opinion in the California case, arguing that ceding authority to elected officials takes judicial modesty too far.

"It is time – past time – to make plain that, while the pandemic poses many grave challenges, there is no world in which the Constitution tolerates color-coded executive edicts that reopen liquor stores and bike shops but shutter churches, synagogues, and mosques," he wrote.

I have seen first hand in my own church that some folks need to share their faith and struggles together in person because of the pandemic. It helps relieve stress and provides mental/emotional health support. We do provide live streaming for those that would rather stay home on Sundays but we wear masks and practice social distancing to the extent possible. Our governor tried months ago to severely limit churches and houses of worship to assembly and it was shot down in state court.

I hadn’t read the opinion. Funny he used the liquor store example as well.
