Wednesday will start the drawdown if Sloe wins and sometime in 2022 if Orange Man does.

I had previously seen work come out tying the high mortality of Covid patients to abnormalities in the complement system (a primitive immune system pathway broadly designed to attack viral pathogens). The theory was that a cytokine storm was responsible for inducing hyperactivity of the compliment, but that would also be true of a bradykinin storm as well (if not the result of both).

Amazing how much has been learned in 10 months.

This is not new at all.

I am the clinical investigations PharmD for the health network I work for.

I have been managing the investigational products (drugs) for two seperate clinical trials we have been running since May /June using ruxolitinib in COVID. Ruxolitinib is NOT an antiviral. It's purpose is to mitigate the cytokine storm that accompanies severe cases of COVID.

-Ruxolitinib Expanded Access Protocol
-Ruxolitinib-Covid DEVENT trial

(Ruxolitinib is already an FDA approved drug for adjunct therapy in some oncology treatments (for the same reason, to mitigate the cytokine storm)).

Similarly it has been know for several months that COVID puts hospitalized patients at a greater risk of thromboembolic events. The use of anticoagulants has helped to reduce mortality from DVT's and PE's.

Intravenous steroids has probably had the biggest impact on mortality.

We are much, much better at treating COVID than we were in March / April. Hence the much lower death rates that we see now versus early on.

Do what I did when COVID hit...invested in $50+ electric hair clippers [WAHL]. It came with tons of trimmer/edging guards and my wife happily trims my hair for free whenever I need it.

I went even cheaper, I've just let my hair grow.

I think the article was referring to bradykinin's specifically and not just general cytokine storms. I believe Ruxolitinib inhibits a cytokine receptor. Not sure if it also inhibits bradykinin peptides.

The original article sorta refers to cytokines/bradykinins as two distinct entities, and they are, but doesn't clarify that a cytokine storm/bradykinin storm aren't mutually exclusive. You are correct though that, as far as the therapeutic targets are concerned, cytokines have been targeted for awhile now. And it's known that cytokines play a synergistic role with bradykinins.

Interesting information!

So are the movie theaters according to the news. SMDH.

I’m driving to Cincinnati this weekend. I’ll just give someone down there my $$ to lower my ears.

When you begin from the premise that COVID is a hoax, then you cannot see how anything bad could possibly happen from merely getting a haircut or going to a movie theater.

When you start from the premise that it’s reasonable for the government to require you to show ID and to sign a log to be provided to said government just to engage in daily life activities within the community, you’ll accept any intrusions on fundamental rights of privacy and association.

I don’t and I won’t.

This take is ridiculous to me in the world we currently live in. People on here talking about how a restaurant trying to collect contact info so they can let you know if the their place has a cluster is a totalitarian invasion of privacy. Despite that, most of you still have a Facebook account, search on google, etc, which is 1,000x more invasive and not at all for good intentions.

Im guessing that the same people that were cool with having their phones tapped over 4K deaths are the ones who now no longer give a restaurant their phone number over 250k of them.

I understand the logic. They're trying to get more robust data to better understand the spread and target businesses that can and cannot remain open if things get bad again. I don't think it's the best path forward because it's not presented very well, Whitmer is generally hyper-partisan, and it's likely to result in a lot of people defying orders as a political retort.

If I was Govenor I would do what a few colleges are doing and try to get creative with random testing pools. You can get good ideas of the viral prevelance, antibody prevelance, spread, etc. with random genetic testing, contact tracing, mobility data, outpatient information, hospitalizations, and more abstract means like testing waste water.

To that end, I really like how Ohio has structured their warning zones based on multiple indicators pertaining to rate of spread, outpatient data, ICU capacity, and so on.

Figured I’d put this here; ESPN lays off 300 employees and will not fill 200 open positions due to affects from COVID.

They're too busy trying to spin dead voters, non-resident voters, less than 30 days resident voters, and non-verified mail-in ballots in Nevada.

Covid cases are reported daily. We're 3 days into a tight election. Yet, I got that "new record" information from Cbs news, while watching election coverage. Not sure what you expect.

It seems to me that the Election would be secondary, to the coming of the end of the world.

So I guess it must have also been all orange mans fault for the European deaths as well .. since our great media has so accurately told us every death was on him
