Monarch Nation loses a star
FYI, the guy from Norfolk who helped run the old Monarch Nation message board for a long time has passed away. Don't know if its cool to put his real name up (so I wont), but if you knew him, you know he was a great guy. A very talented florist, generous, and loved ODU. He will be missed at the games and in our lives.

This is such sad and shocking news. My heart aches for his family.

A different person hosted Monarch Nation. But, sadly, the person who hosted the site passed away this summer.

There was the guy in Florida who hosted it, but the florist in Norfolk basically ran it for a few years.

I don’t think he ever joined this site but he was bigblue1975 on the old CAAZone and Monarch Nation. The guy from Florida who originally founded MN posted here as MonarchFans...

RE: Monarch Nation loses a star
BigBlue1975 was his handle (yes, he was the lion mascot for a spell). Jay was one of the best humans around. Died in his sleep is the only good thing about any of this. One of my good friends. After losing his long time family business he was able to bring it back from his house online. He worked hard to do that. He had been in poor health but just had his knee replaced last week. Guess he just wore out.

He was down in New Orleans with me and my crew for the infamous BT meeting before the NCAA Baylor game. Won't ever tell that story online but you are free to ask me in person if you know me!

I did some digging around this morning to find out if ODUoldtimer was still around. Wow, deja vu after figuring out his name I knew his father and mother, his father, and my father had business dealings in the 70s to mid 80s. I found his phone number on here linked to a poker tournament but his FB and csnbbs have gone cold since January. I don't want to gain 100% creeper status by calling the number.

RE: Monarch Nation loses a star
I did not know, but I have long suspected Old Timer was gone. I met George and Philip many years ago playing Texas Hold 'Em in local poker tournaments. George was a kind soul who always had a smile on his face. It was special getting to know him, not only as a poker aficionado, but also as a dedicated member of Monarch Nation. We shared many private messages on this board through the years. God bless you and your family, George. Rest in peace.
