Who says he's working for free? I've never heard of an umpire working any game for free, even a scrimmage.

I can see how an intra-squad scrimmage could get very competitive.

Yeah, pretty pathetic display. Paid or not, he's practically doing them a favor by giving their entire team a game-like experience in practice. Not very "Baptist" it seems.
