RE: Playoffs
The downside of the G5 autobid is that the American consistently fields the best top tier of teams and the best will sustain a conference loss each year allowing a Coastal Carolina to ascend if the poll voters don't do their homework on quality of wins and losses.

Since many poll voters hardly seem to know the G5 exists, it's hard to believe they'd be thoughtful in voting and just go with Cinderella each year. A P5 loss in conference is always rationalized; for the G5 it's a knockout punch.

The ultimate solution is a separation of the top 80-90 programs from the NCAA, organized geographically and committed to an eight team playoff. The top of the American has shown the commitment of resources to hire and retain excellent coaches, recruit nationally, beat P5 teams on a big stage and draw fans. It's easy to draw a dividing line between that group and almost all the rest. That day will come.

I don’t think it’s that big of an issue. If there is a Playoff bid on the line expect the amount of attention paid to the top G5 teams to increase a bit. Further, it’s already somewhat of a risk for the NY6 bid.

I do agree that it will be the Americans bid to lose, but we will have to see how that plays out over the years as it could change, especially with the frequency of G5 programs losing their coaches.

Paul Finebaum reveals top five teams after Week 9

"And my final team — Cincinnati, yes. Cincinnati, I've got to give a lot of credit to them. And here they come. They destroyed Memphis (in a 49-10 win). (Bearcats head coach) Luke Fickell — remember Ohio State after (Jim) Tressel (in 2011)? Keep your eye on him. Everyone will be trying to hire him in the offseason."

Joey Galloway also put us in at his #5 on an espn college wrap-up show. Jessie Palmer put Georgia at #5 but UC - 6.5 was one of his locks of the day so he was crowing about that.

We are #6 in the new coaches poll a few votes ahead of Texas A&M. Probably should be #6 when the AP comes out unless Texas A&M passes us. I would like to see Georgia drop and Bearcats check in at #5. Just keep winning and maybe the 4 spot can be ours
down the road.

If we keep winning, especially in convincing fashion, everything else will take care of itself. There are already people putting us in the Playoff and as more teams lose and if we continue to win more and more will continue to have us in the top 4. Hopefully the coaches and players just focus on winning one game at a time knowing everything else will take care of itself.

RE: Playoffs
So to update this a little, the following teams all lost and likely are eliminated from playoff contention:

UNC
Penn State

Michigan has only 1 loss but it's hard to see them making it.
Wisconsin seems likely to cancel their game against Purdue. Does a 6-1 team have an argument?

A&M is an interesting case. It's likely they win out (easy schedule the rest of the way) but won't play in SEC championship.

The trick is going to be climbing higher than #6 or #5.

Not sure that they will let us get any higher than this...even if we go undefeated.

And the current polls are not the CFP rankings. I am expecting us to be at #7 or #8 in the CFP rankings, USA Today and AP be damned.

As things stand now, Texas A&M only has one ranked win and only one left Team on their schedule is ranked (Auburn #24). We very well may have more ranked wins than they do, though they may have a better win against Florida but they will also have a loss, albeit to Alabama. Currently though we are barely holding on ahead of them in the coaches Poll.

Some of the remaining teams are going to lose, possibly multiple times.

Notre Dame still has a game against Clemson, at North Carolina, at Wake Forest and the CCG that they could end up losing multiple games.

Georgia/Florida already have one loss and play each other. The winner of that game has Alabama in the CCG, if they survive the rest of their schedule.

I think our best option is for Alabama, Clemson, and OSU to win out as that means Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame will have at least 2 losses. Wisconsin will have at least one loss while playing a significant amount less games and possibly more losses.

I think too many people are ignoring a&m. I wouldn't be surprised if they win out and hang their hat on that florida win. I guarantee the committee will find a way to rank a 1 loss a&m over Cincy, even if they don't play in the secccg

I can definitely see the committee going that route, even though we would almost certainly have more ranked wins (maybe multiple more), 2 more total wins, and less losses. That said, they could still lose and with the momentum that UC is gaining I actually don’t see it as being a clear cut decision. The best scenario would be them dropping another game though.

A&m drops one more
1 loss pac12 winner
2 loss sec runner up
2 loss ND

Bama, clemson, osu, Cincy

I actually think UC would get in with this scenario and I think this has a good chance of happening (worried about a&m)

I think next week we should hope that Clemson's backup beats ND and then Lawrence beats ND in the ACC championship. It would make no sense for the committee to give ND a 3rd chance to play them in the 1 v 4 matchup under that scenario.

A 1 loss Texas A&M is going to leapfrog UC before too long. You can just feel the media really wants to hype up Monds and Jimbo Fisher.

Honestly, if we move up a spot or hold serve for the next several weeks I don't believe the CFP rankings will have us high as the AP poll. Those rankings come out Nov. 17th and I could see us #9 or #8ish.

RE: Playoffs
I personally don't know that they would take A&M over undefeated UC and my gut says they will lose one anyway. Florida is a nice win, though at home, but they barely beat Vandy and were stomped by Bama. We already have as many ranked wins as they can possibly get and we stomped out ranked teams, one on the road, while they won by 3 at home.

I think we need Clemson, Bama and O$U to run the table and Pac-12 to have 1 loss. In a year like this, maybe the committee throws us a bone to say they gave the little guys a shot. Ideally A&M loses another one and the cards fall right.

First things first, we need to focus on this week and win out to have a shot. It would be nice to see SMU win out and keep moving up the rankings and then beat them in the title game again, which could give us to 2 very strong wins.
