Interim Head coach Scotty Walden resigns to take the head coaching job at Austin Peay. USM can't even keep the 30 yr old interim guy that is 1-3. Can't make this stuff up.

I definitely am in the Freeze for HC camp. Likely a long shot but would be great.

I talked to at least one person today and saw a few on Twitter thinking this was an indictment of what’s going on on campus, e.g., “OMG! 3 coaches in a year! What’s going on?!?”

I’m not bothered by it a bit. Walden knew his chances of getting the gig full-time were slim if they existed at all. Of course he’s going to take the offer in hand. It’s just due to the weirdness of the 2020 that said offer came in October instead of December.

i'm not pissing myself over this i'm pointing out the dumpster fire that is our 2020 season. I would like to think that we get a good coach here for what we are going to pay

Just a general statement - even some people on the CUSA board that aren't even Southern Miss fans are acting like this is some kind of sign of bad things to come. To me, the sign will be in the hire. As you say, 2020 is a dumpster fire. I've already written it off, so I don't care if the entire staff leaves and they let one of us coach the remaining games. But they'd have to pay me more than they were paying Scotty.
