Perhaps Mikey could let them use the Bengals practice field for a couple of hours on Friday without charging an exorbitant fee. Oh wait, never mind.

We can't count on Memphis dropping all those passes that SMU did either.

I would give our Defense some credit for those drops. I think the SMU receivers were a little shell shocked from the tenacity and speed that our D plays at. I don't think they've experienced anything like that this year.

Despite the head to head result, Memphis is > than SMU IMHO. I was not impressed with the Mustangs OL/DL and overall athleticism in general. Memphis will be another story- they still have some dudes.

We are going to need to take better control of the football on Saturday and I'd like to see us shore up the penalties. Yeah, a lot of the calls were bullbleep, but a lot of them were legit (including a facemask on their QB that was never called). We can't give Memphis 126 free yards from the Zebras. Their offense is too dangerous.

Bolded, I share both concerns. Without looking at rosters, I'm guessing Memphis has overall higher rated talent, bigger, stronger linemen, and skill players as good as, if not better than SMU.

Alternately, I think the way the UC defense is built it's going to give any opponent not named Clemson or Alabama, fits. And UC played their best football Saturday night on the road and comes home looking to make a statement after losing the CCG to this bunch last year. I'm more optimistic based upon the performance at SMU, but I do expect a closer game so keep the defibrillators handy.

I certainly agree with this. It was at SMU and Memphis got off to a really slow start after a couple weeks off. Plus Memphis has a new head coach. I think talent wise Memphis is a couple notches above SMU.

I was saying statistically, not talent-wise...although I think Buechele is a better QB than White.

Also, now that Coxie (who was still playing when they lost to the team we just beat by 28 points) and Gainwell are not with Memphis, I'm not entirely sure how big the talent gap is anymore. The one thing I do like is that they don't have a guy who can win a jump ball against our DBs anymore with Coxie gone. Our shortest high snap DB is 6'1", their tallest pass catcher is their 6'2" TE. Memphis is still a very dangerous team, but I'm confident.

I think Memphis will game plan to stop Ridder from running. He's going to have to make some throws. Quick short strikes worked really well in first drive against SMU. Start with something like that.

We would really shock them if we completed a pass over 25 yards in the air.

I expect to see the Ridder of last Saturday return this weekend. If you haven't watched his interview from practice yesterday it's worth a look. He conveys both an energy and likeability that make him a winner with the other players and the coaching staff. His passing results are often mixed (at best) but he finds ways to win most days.

Let's build a safe lead by the 4th quarter and get Bryant some reps. to keep him sharp off the bench.

I'd be surprised with most of our guys back from two losses last year to these guys, and Memphis having to travel here if we're not locked in for this game. These guys have had a year to let that settle into their gut, and my biggest fear is if they come out to jacked up.

Socially distant tailgate party in the lot. We can set up around Rath's RV!

The problem is Memphis holds opponent to 128 yards rushing but gives up 440 yards passing. Ridder needs 3 games to get 440 yards passing.

They will shut down the run and force Ridder to throw. Therein lies the problem.

RE: Memphis Tigers Game
SMU tried that and we opened the game with 10 passing plays. Sure, Ridder ran on a couple of them, but that’s a good thing. I know it was just one game but if Ridder plays like that every week we are really a top 10 team.
