Truckloads of blame to go around there. It's not just the RB. That was just the first of four chances Penn State had to close out the game in regulation.

-- James Franklin could have had his team go for 2 after the TD. If they make it, PSU is up 9 and IU can't tie it. If they miss, PSU is still up 7.

-- PSU's defense could have prevented IU from scoring the TD at the end of regulation.

-- PSU's defense could have prevented IU from scoring the 2-point conversion that sent the game to OT.

Any *one* of those three, and PSU wins without OT. But they blew all of them.

That's what it takes for an Indiana to beat a Penn State.

Epic stuff, and welcome back, B1G!

04-cheers

Random NY6 and playoff implication stuff from yesterday:

1) Penn State loses to Indiana, critically endangering their playoff chances.

2) Alabama wins big, but loses star WR Waddell for the year. That will matter if they face a Clemson or Ohio State in the playoffs.

3) Cincy crushes SMU. Cincy is looking really good and will stay in the top 10 of the polls. If any G5 has a chance for the playoffs, it is Cincy.

4) Oklahoma State survives Iowa State. At this point, OKS is the Big 12's best shot for a playoff berth, they need them to keep winning, and they survived a test yesterday.

5) BYU, Liberty, Coastal Carolina and Marshall all win to remain unbeaten. These could be gadflies in the ointment of NY6 or even CFP scenarios.

To see Indiana (exciting two-point conversion) and Middle Tennessee (the "quadruple goal post strike") win as they did ... for this long-time fan of the Hoosier and Blue Raider programs ... wow.

I watched some of the Coastal Carolina vs. GaSouthern game. Coastal is damn good.

Alabama impressed me in its win over Tennessee.

Didn't see Ohio State but the QB was stellar.

Let's face it: Thanks to entities like the SEC, Big 12, ACC and Nebraska, we have had college football. Even moreso, it's been Damn Fun college football. I thought no fans in the stands would be a mortal blow to the enjoyment of the season, because so much of what makes CFB great is the pageantry and tradition and atmosphere, and that's all created by the fans.

But .... It's been a great season filled with memorable moments. And we're only getting in to it. Let's keep our fingers crossed on virus infections, etc.

Trivia ...

LSU returned a kick for a TD yesterday in the game vs South Carolina. Not a big deal, right? Well, it was the first time in 14,253 days that LSU had returned a kickoff for a TD in Tiger Stadium. The last time that had happened was 260 home games ago, on October 17, 1981.

The day that happened, the #1 song in the country was "Arthur's Theme" by Christopher Cross, the #1 album was "Tattoo You" by the Rolling Stones, and the #1 movie was "Paternity", which I have never heard of, LOL.

A shout out to my San Jose State Spartans. Nice domination of Air Force. Our TE Deese is going to be an NFL player like his dad. A BIG problem for defenses in the red zone

I am so shocked at Coastal’s performance this year. I was saying only months back that it wouldn’t surprise me if they weren’t good for a long time in the sport for whatever reasons there may have been. Glad to eat a slice of humble pie on this one.

I'm not really shocked they are playing well. Jamey Chadwell is one hell of a coach. He had winning seasons all four years at North Charleston, when the Buccaneers had only had four winning seasons in their history before him, and took the Bucs to the FCS playoffs for the first time ever. Prior to that he took North Greenville to the DII playoffs for the first time in their history.

Yeah, I overlooked his success because it was Big South and not something like SoCon, CAAF, or OVC. I tended to focus on the resource gap and the story of CCU’s journey to just get out of Big South and maybe biting off more than they could chew with FBS. Dude’s probably gone after this season when a bigger program probably offers more money, but I hope for more good things for CCU.
