Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. Purge capitalism and traditional elements from society.

My kids mascot is the bulldog. That is not very inclusive to others such as German Shepherds, Cocker Spaniels, labs, etc.. I'm thinking of starting an advisory committee of “interested and open-minded community members” to review the district’s mascot.

Maybe the community should change the city name at same time.

Wait until San Francisco (St Francis) changes its name. Btw, I'm currently enjoying Dutch Apple Pie.

Well I suppose that Hope Athletics will have to drop the flying dutchman and flying dutch from their programs. Their logo is an anchor so maybe they switch to the sailors or something like that.
This whole PC world we live in is a disaster.

As much as I dislike CMU, I respect and admire the way it has handled the "Chippewa" name.
Rather than arbitrarily changing it on the assumption its use "offended" Native Americans (as EMU arrogantly and irresponsibly did), it reached-out to the Chippewa Tribe. In doing so, it found the tribe SUPPORTS use of the name, but under some conditions, including removal of war-like and sterotypical symbols. Also, no mascot.
CMU has taken the opportunity to educate its student body on Chippewa Tribe history and Native American culture. That's better for both CMU and the Chippewa Tribe than changing the name to something generic (Bobcats, Dragons, Maroons, etc) and pretending the Chippewa Tribe does not even exist.

Dear GullLake,
Eastern had groups that reached out to the Huron tribe at the time of the name change. The Huron leaders came to Eastern to voice their opinions, which was the same response that Central got from the Chippewa tribe. They were proud of the fact that an actual tribe name was being used.
It all fell on deaf ears, as our president at that time, Shelton, refused to take the advice of tribal leaders, and 80% of alumni that wanted to keep the Huron name.

It's only a matter of time before CMU changes, whether because the tribe gets new leadership that changes their stance, or because the school gets a president that ignores them & wants to do the 'cool' thing

Right on!
Speaking as a dutch person, I find the idea of erasing our lived cultural experience and cultural expression to be violent, especially in light of the many immigrants facing colonialist aggression from the white cis-male dominionist ruling class of the time. Until we address the underlying hegemonic forces at play, I insist everyone attend a seminar on the experience of being Dutch in an English world and self-examine and repudiate their own inherent supremacist biases. I'll gladly host this seminar for a nominal fee of $10,000.
P.S. Stop appropriating my culture with your windmills and aggressive coastline land use management! Find other respectful ways to generate your green energy.

Ok, no more Dutch Boy Paint, Voortman Windmill Cookies, Dutch beers, the movie "Dutch", or tulips.

I also find use of putting trash bins under the sink a cancellable offense.

The “Flying Dutchman” is actually a legendary ghost ship 17th/ 18th century so the probably explains the anchor.

Liz Cheney agrees.
I think “Catcher in the Rye” should be back in

RE: Holland Dutch Offensive
What a surprise. Two big things happening right now: Hearings on the Trump led insurrection & Congress trying to pass COVID relief w/ zero GOP support (70% of Americans support it).
So, Fox News convinces all the lemmings Dr. Seuss & Mr. Potato Head are the big issues of the day.
