Starting QB?
Anyone heard anything about starting QB decision? Is one of them getting more 1st team snaps?

RE: Starting QB?
One QB per quarter and wildcat if it gets to OT. That'd be pretty on brand.

I really hope to see Daquan Finn. I think he’s going to add some real excitement to our offense. He wasn’t Mr Football in Michigan just for grins. Is he a Redshirt Freshman.

Finn is a RS Freshman

UT needs Finn to emerge as a viable QB option. He gives TT O a dimension other QBs cannot offer... mobility.

Go Rockets!

We had that dimension the last couple years. That dimension got hurt a lot. I hope Finn is more durable than Mitch G was.

Durable might not exist against a 230lb LB. I'm thinking just a bit more fear is in order.

RE: Starting QB?
I get it guys... a hurt starting QB is not good. We need more than a statue. Lots of mobile quarterbacks avoid significant injury. That’s the current trend in all football.

Is Bradley the future? Not sure.

Go Rockets!!!

With a 6 game schedule I think someone with experience will get the nod and that pretty much narrows it down to two options, and ultimately one, really. I hope they fixed the OL.

Having Bryce Harris back at center will surely help... Also am sure Rosi, Doerger, and Berg have gotten bigger/ stronger along with a year of experience under their belts...

Ever hear of these guys?

Torsten Boss; Jason Fracasa, Tommy Vento, Prescott Line, Mark Chapman, Travis Smith, Alex Malzone, Donnie Corley, Cody White, La'Darius Jefferson

Those are all the winners from 2008 to 2017 - before Finn won it in 2018. I'd like to hope Finn makes a name for himself at the D1 level at Toledo. Not sure any of those other guys saw much playing time in college. 6 were quarterbacks in HS

RE: Starting QB?
i think the biggest issue w qb play last year was the oline. outside of aaron rodgers or lamar jackson, it's pretty tough to move the ball when you got guys in your face before routes develop.

RE: Starting QB?
I agree with the folks that the biggest issue at QB last season was the offensive line. Having Harris back will help, but it is both tackles that need a big step up this season, IMO.

In the o-line preview article on the UT website, Candle had said Edinboro U transfer Gurman will help immediately, so I expect he will likely start at one of the tackle spots.

RE: Starting QB?
I took a little time today to view the UT - UK game from last year on you tube. I was specifically interested to watch QB Bradley. I actually thought he looked pretty good. He isn’t as quick as MG, but does have the ability to scramble as shown by a few runs in the game including the late touchdown. He looked poised, and was pretty accurate. He threw into traffic a couple times, which resulted in a pic. There are a few situational plays that could be cleaned up. Otherwise, looks pretty capable.

I kinda figure Peters will get the start. Finn would be pretty likely too considering the athletic ability. A few less dropped balls, better protection, and experienced gamesmanship, Bradley just might be the guy.

This will be interesting. Go Rockets! Can’t wait!

RE: Starting QB?
Candle was asked about starting QB in press conference on 29th. He said because it is unusual year with no Spring practice and possibiity of someone testing positive that they are trying to keep competition going as long as possible so all 3 get max quality practice time. But he also said they would name a starter before the game.

Also note that Peters was only QB with press conference video on https://utrockets.com/sports/football along with Candle, Flynt, Harris Thurs so maybe that indicates something?

I suppose keeping the QB battle going longer also minimizes the chance one may opt out and/or transfer and keeps potential backups in the que longer?

I saw the infamous Travis Smith on the list above. That flamed out before it even began. I met him in the Glass Bowl during media day 6 years ago. Nice young man but he never applied his skills at D1 level as far as I know. Maybe he played at GVSU later -not sure.

Go Rockets!

So I take it that starting QB has not been announced yet? BTW does anyone have a link to a depth chart.

It's in the thread titled "Football Depth Chart Out".

Talent in Michigan is not very deep. It's one reason why Michigan is down even though they recruit nationally. MSU still plucked a lot of guys out of Ohio with the Dantonio connection. Michigan only has 13 guys from Ohio on their roster this year (OSU has just 3 from Michigan; MSU has 27 from Ohio). The 13 Ohio guys on the Michigan roster is way down from prior years. Top Ohio talent is less enthused about a Michigan offer than in the past. With Dantonio out at MSU, we should be seeing even more Ohio talent signing at Toledo in the future. Toledo has 11 from Michigan on its roster and 15 from Florida, and 50 from Ohio. That is from the entire roster isting.
